Full throttle stall. Help!

Davedyer, you could be right, this is how it came from BMW, nothing has changed other than a new battery. I would have thought that adjustments would have to be made for it to "go past" full throttle? It doesn't seem to be consistent, after a reset it might not cut on full throttle, then 20 seconds later it probably will & carry on doing so. Strangely it doesn't seem to be exact, it appears to cut at slightly different times but always near full open.
Thanks for the idea though, I'll try & check that out, the more theories the better!

Without having the drawings I can't be sure, but most throttle bodies have a lock nut which adjusts the maximum movement it makes. Perhaps the lock nut has loosened?

Don't think badly of me please, but could you be operating in too low a gear and hitting the Rev Limiter. This could be possible if you've come from sports bikes :P

Totally baffled

Well I was totally baffled by this behavior until someone suggested disconnecting the Lambda sensor to see if this made a difference.
I went out on the bike with the Lambda connected, when at about 5th attempt it stalled at full throttle I disconnected the sensor. Carried on riding and the bike seemed fine, didn't stall.
Logically I thought if I now connect the sensor again it will cut out again, well, I re-connected the Lambda, that was something like 300kms ago & despite many attempts to get it to stall it won't. Wound on full throttle something like 50 times now & it runs fine.
Hope it carries on running properly, but without knowing what the problem was (is) its difficult to be confident it won't happen again. Still baffled!
It's hard work riding with your fingers crossed :D .

Is the TPS a type of variable potentiometer? If it is they can have a habit of getting poor connectivity in certain parts of their travel either through wearing out or dirt - like the crackley volume control on an old radio.

If you've disconnected the Lambda sensor, the ECU might have swapped modes, and even with it reconnected, it may still be running as if the Lambda sensor isn't there any more.

Try resetting the ECU

With ignition off remove fuse 5
Wait a few minutes
Put fuse 5 back
Turn the ignition on but don't start the bike
Twist the throttle fully a couple of times

Still baffled!

Thanks T.W , did as you suggested & reset the ECU, been out for a 45 minute blast, tried full throttle about 20 times, everything seems fine.
Doesn't seem as if there is a problem any more, just going to have to try full throttle now & again for peace of mind.
One last thought, it might be an idea for all of you to try full throttle when your next out riding, just in case, not very nice to find you've got a problem when you pull out at speed to pass something & it cuts  .

I've never even gotten close to full thottle... I think it's a wrap, climb the fingers up the grip, another wrap.... something like that...

Call me slow.. but I've never needed it bad enough to go through that motion with my eyes watering and my hair on fire... :bounce1

Al...

OK, its very unlikely that anyone will have this problem, but I have heard of someone else with something very similar.
Lets put it another way, "IF" your bike stalls at full throttle, would you rather find out when & where you want, OR when you pull out to do a fast overtake of a bus/lorry/mate who your trying to impress?
