Full throttle... unwanted experience!!!

Hi all,

Well I am just putting 1150GS back together again after replacing the gearbox. I have tried starting the bike whilst on its centre stand and it fires and runs at full throttle, maximum revs.

I have looked at the obvious, the throttle cables into the throttle bodies seem ok, there is travel on them from the throttle twist grip and when released they return back to the idle stop/screw on both sides.

However the bike runs at max revs and I am not sure what I have done wrong!!!

Are there any other things I should be checking????

Is your garage an oxygen tent?

Not sure about the choke cable, that will need checking....

Not 120 octane race fuel either, just the common or garden 95 ron juice

And the oxygen tent is only when I go to bed... And no!!! I don't sleep with my bike!!! yet....

Have you trapped the cable somewhere? Is there full movement in the throttle body pulleys and does it correspond the the twist grip movement?

Well it seems like there is full movement in the throttle cables, being as when the throttle is released, the pulleys seems to move back to the end stops. ie the idle stops.

i get about just under half a turn on the throttle, is this normal? Its ages since I have ridden the bike

Does the bike run at full throttle with out touching the throttle i.e just from pressing the start button, and the throttle butteflies against there closed throttle stops (it's a small screw and lock nut at the back of the throttle body usually sealed witha dab of blue paint)?

YES!!!

I know it's no help, but I would be looking at the throttle bodies because it's almost an impossibility for the butterflys to be closed and run at full revs as there is no air to mix with the fuel. It's a strange one!

got to be a big air leak somewhere surely?

Could be the choke cable, mines does this occasionally as it's loose in the mounting. Are you starting it with the choke then switching off straight away when it over-revs? It might seem counter productive but a quick twist of the throttle then shutting off again sorts mine out.

Solved it by removing the tank and fiddling with the cable. However I now have discovered another problem!
