Hi, I'm getting my bike tomorrow and I would love to blast around the lake district to familiarise and have some fun.
Could someone in the know please advise re a b&b to stay and some good routes but most importantly, what I'm really looking for, some greenlaning, a track up the side of a mountain, or at least off the beaten track.
I'm sure you get the picture, I appreciate, in advance, your time and effort.
Many many thanks,
John

TerryNW is your man, I think he knows just about possible green lane in that region.

I have all the LDNPA BOATs/UCRs plotted on Mapyx Quo OS maps & found that Little Langdale & Coniston/Grizedale were the best density of trails, but it may depend what you're riding, as to which would be "do-able".

Well, there's the Hardnose and Wryknott passes, and the Whinlatter pass; get yerself an Ordnance Survey and look for the roads with two or more black arrowheads on them...

We turned off an A-road to cut across country, and ended up on a 1-in-4 lane - in a Honda Jazz: "Don't lean back, this thing could tip over!"

Just about any road in the Lakes is good. I live in Ulversaton, and the Duddon valley is one of my favourite places. Turn off the A590 st Greenodd if you are coming from the M6 and follow the signs to Broughton. Once through broughton, turn off just before Duddon Bridge, Signposted Ulpha. Usually pretty deserted and great roads
