funny noise and very thirsty!

while I am on and trying to sort out the oil thingy can anyone tell me why my bike has a knocking noise when it first starts up but goes away later when its warm? and why am I only 180 miles to a tank of fuel? I was expecting to get at least 240! any thoughts...

Fuel consumption ...

... should be about 10miles per litre as a rough guide. The 'Fill me now' lights come on at different levels for different bikes, so if you're putting in 18L then thats about right.

Perhaps it needs to be tuned. Do a proper service. City riding uses up a lot of juice.

Change cam chain tensioner and do valves and rocker end float clearance and it should improve. Mine did anyway.

I thought the tensioner issue should go away after the first 3 seconds, when it gets oil, not until it gets warm. I think there is another issue here...

Thats the case with my old beast. Although it does get a little rattly after a ride. Thats the old age bit.

Must have been my rocker end float then that shut the left side up. Don't care tbh. Better fuel efficiency apparent all ready. Im just contributing. I don't claim to know anything.
