G650 X Country

Gaz;1405057 do some proper off-roading and you'll see why. .[/QUOTE said:
Don't want to do proper off roading cause I'm a girly and ride an X -country.

Way too macho for me.

BY the way guys

YOU STARTED THIS - NOT ME, I posted about my bike not yours.

IF YOU DONT LIKE THE X-COUNTRY THATS FINE, but its time to butt out and let those who do like it speak up as this is what this thread is about.

ITS CALLED FREE SPEECH where sometimes what you like is not the centre of attention so go away and ruin your own thread.

:)

Free speech but don't say something about my bike I don't like?

Nice one, chill Wadum, you seem a little bit too defensive. It's the way it is, no point in getting all hot under the collar :thumb2

I paid half price for a used one. Work it out.

A Bargain and it works.

Glad to see you got on well with it today!

Might be worth keeping your eye open for a set of wheels from an XChallenge?

That way when it starts to get sticky when winter comes, you won't be restricted on rubber choice, the increase in ride height won't be a lot either.

And your front mudguard won't allow your radiator to fill with crap as soon as the bike hits mud. (will need changing if your fit larger rims though?)

It still looks to have the same crap chain guide as the XC. (the TT item is actually a modified KTM item if you fancy a bit of DIY)

I think potentially you could have a bike that is maybe better than the challenge, it just doesn't have the looks. like that really matters when it's all plastered in shyte anyway?

.. or the suspension, but since when has that mattered off-road:blast

There is nothing wrong with buying a bike designed for taking your CBT on.

Nice obne - I think these are a cracking little bike and suitable for girls as the seat hieght is managable. I look forwards to your reports. And obviously you will be taking plenty of pics in its natural habitat:augie

Guys -
I am very sorry to have clearly caused annoyance in this post.

My humour can be brutal and best taken when you can see the smile on my face. Most of the posts were just that, to be taken in humour with tonque in cheek. I seriously do not think its a great bike, just a bike.

Too much time at computer last night preparing work for this week. Lesson learnt.

Sorry again, but will post my thoughts on the bike soon (maybe). :(

No probs, it's all a laugh at the end of the day. It's only the internet :)

I'm surprised the X-country hasn't sold that well - seems to be a reluctance for folk in the UK to by singles unless they are in an enduro bike.... (or maybe we have too fragile egos....:hide)

I reckon its an ideal tool for touring and whanging around back roads. Be interesting to see if you can fit a 21" front hoop as this would make it a very capable off roader - kind of a 650cc Beta alp. Low seat height makes a huge difference on a trailly and much more important that amount of suspension travel in the real world. Whats the tank range like?

Clearly not only the UK .... BMW have been struggling to sell them here too. Even reduced the prices quite dramatically but there still seem to be lots lying around the showrooms.

OTOH, X-Challenge been selling quite well.

Not sure about the X-Country tank range, but on the X-challenge it is very dependant on the terrain:
Open road cruising 125kph = 140km to the reserve light
Dirt road riding (60-80kph) = 170km to the reserve light
Best ever was 218km, on 8,7 liters. mix of dirt road and slow technical stuff.

I've ressurected this thread because I was looking at Xchallenge threads to see if it's worth changing my Dak.

You guys are unreal :(:(:(

A bit like the GSA owners that call the GS riders girls because their bike has 1" more travel etc etc.

I ride a 650 Dak and it has done plenty of knarly off road stuff. I even off roaded my 1150GS shock horror, and that wasn't the adventure either :blast

I would agree that the bike needs a 21" front wheel, but give it that and I'd take it anywhere you can take your X challenges!!!!

You should be ashamed of yourselves :rob

I had a X-Country this week as a loaner whilst mine was being serviced. I enjoyed it..great bike to have a laugh on and a bit of a hoon about.:thumb2

Having had a Dakar and now got an XChallenge

The XC scores off road over the Dakar in lots of ways - weight/suspension and power delivery and it's not too bad on the road.

The Dakar is far better on road and for what it is, not bad on wide, open trails

The X challenge is a better off road bike no doubts. But, and this is my point, the Dak will do some serious stuff. Maybe not as easily as an X Challenge but it will do them.

I've done Monsul Head, Bamford Clough and many other tough trails with the Dak. Many of the guys I go out with would say the Dak isn't suitable, but I've done the lanes, struggled on some but got the old girl through in the end. My brother did Monsul Head on his 101 Dakar Airhead Replica last week.

There is alot of bitching and sniping about which bikes best, my point is that the X Country is a perfectly capable bike and in most cases will never get used to it's full capability (Much like many of the X challenges that will be used on simple lanes that I'd happily do on my Dak).

Too many people think you have to have the latast new fangled sparkle box to do laning. Lets face it, guys were doing these lanes on BSA banthams many years ago.

So the guy got an X country at a silly cheap price, looks like a stonking machine for doing any of the lanes in this country, just needs a 21" wheel to make tyre choice easier. At £150 ish for a wheel, his bike looks a good buy :thumb

I ran the X-Country for a while as a courtesy bike and had immense fun on it until it got a puncture, it was promptly swapped out for a 650GS and all I can say is WOW! These 650's are so under rated and have been a real eye opener for me, they are a joy to ride and incredibly capable. As I have said before, I am lucky in that I enjoy riding bikes regardless of CC and the buzz I get from a 650 is every bit the same as from a bigger bike.

Thinking about the 650 riders I have met in the past made also me realise these bikes are often used for some serious adventures.

As an aside, I rode in today and saw a very shiny black 1200GS with a rider resplendent in shiny clean twat suit and shortly afterwards a scruffy black 650GS with a rider in a HG suit that had turned to a uniform road grime grey.

Makes me wonder which one does the serious miles......
