I had to tighten the steering head bearing on the G650GS today. I'd had it replaced by an independent garage, but it had got really loose after about 100 miles. I'd have taken it back as they had offered to re-tighten if needed, but they're closed quite a bit over Christmas and it's a fair way to go for what is a small/easy job - but only if you've got the right bloody tools! BMW have made it such that you need a special tool (£40) to tighten the bearings (a c-spanner could easily have done the job if they'd designed it slightly in their customers favour..).

Still, job jobbed, which is always rewarding.

If anybody finds themselves replacing or tightening their bearings, you're more than welcome to borrow the 'special' tool if you're local.

You just need a cheap adjustable pin spanner. No need to buy a special tool. :thumb

I need to learn to ask for tips on here before I go out spending.. Chances are high that it's been done before by somebody on here! I'd never even heard of a pin spanner until your post..

Live and learn. :D

If you need one and can't get one, a piece of flat steel, a couple of holes and a couple of bolts and nuts and possibly a bit of grinding would also make you your own 'special tool'.
