Looking for a quick opinion on the new G650GS as I have the opportunity to swap the Tenere for it and wanted a bit of feed back?

I am 6'2" and it feels ok for size but couldnt wizz it down the road?

I have been on the F a few years back and that was good fun so I gather it will be fairly similar

All the ride reports seem to favour it.

Thanks in Advance

Brilliant bike, good fun but I do fractionally prefer my F650GS twin.

I bought an old Dakar seat for when I ride the wife's G, gives me more leg room. Well worth picking up a tall seat if you are tall.

G650GS

+1 Brilliant Bike......Especially for around £5k new......!:thumb

Mrs P has one and I rode it for the first few hundred miles before lowering it for her some more. It goes really well and because it basically an updated F650GS(single) It's all well proven and reliable stuff.

The new front fairing and instruments really sharpen the styling and a lot of the F650 Touratech stuff will fit the new G'bike(apart from the front upper fairing)

Fantastic fuel economy and you can load it up for an around the world trip and it will do it without drama or crisis......www.horizonsunlimited.com is the home of no bullsh*t rtw travellers, many of whom ride F650GS's because of their reliability and cost.

Check out www.f650.co.uk aswell

Put the tall or Dakar seat on the G' aswell as bar risers and the bike should fit really well(i'm 6' 4'' and can fit reasonably comfortably)

There will be the G650GS Sertao soon which will be a new version of the old F650GS Dakar and would suit taller riders aswell as being a wee bit more capable 'offroad'

I cant help you with a new BMW but I am keen to nderstand why you are swapping your Tenere so soobn. You are not alone as I have noticed a lot of folk bought them and then got shot... Whats wrong with them!! To heavy, uncomfy etc...:blagblah:blagblah:blagblah

Tenere is very good and I origanaly wanted a 650 Dakar.

I have to say the Tenere is far better power wise since i put a K&N in it but I just like the look of the 650GS and this one looks the part.

Nothing to put the Tenere down at all really and not 100% on the deal yet so we will have to see.

Saw it NEC and was underwhelmed, much, much prefer the look of the vanilla G

It looked like it had the standard seat as well, not the tall seat like the Dakar used to get.... So unless you want spoked wheels I would go for the normal bike.

The G650GS is excellent value for money, and is a brilliant fun bike, that is very happy touring, it loves B & C roads too.

It is a FANTASTIC bike. I've just sold mine :tears as we want something to go 2s up but if I had the cash I would have kept it, I was very sad to see it go :friday

I'm 6'1" and ours had the seat height reduction (SWMBO is 5' 0.25"). I had priced up the optional high seat (£150) and if I hadn't changed the bike I was going to buy that. I suspect you're looking at a full size bike, but it might be worth considering the taller seat.

I honestly couldn't fault it. It was fast enough as long as you fully rotated the throttle, it did 80+ mpg, cost 2&6 to insure and servicing didn't look to be expensive. After 2500 miles, the EXP tyres looked brand new.

As long as it has oil and fuel in it, I'm pretty sure it will last forever. There is a wee issue of hot starting, but I believe BMW have a proper fix for this.

It's made out of tried and tested parts so it should be reliable.

The only thing I didn't like was the starter button, well cheap, but I'm nit picking.

It put a smile on my face every time I rode it. It did everything I wanted it to do so well that I sold my S1000RR. I just hope my new bike is as good

If you fancy a jont up to Edinburgh, I know the local dealer has one you could try :) There are some spectacular roads around here to try it on :thumb :flag

As for the Sertao, do you really need wire wheels and a sticker kit? :ronno

If there is anything specific you want to know, please ask :beerjug:

If you're over 6' tall maybe better to wait for the Dakar version?

The Dakar (Sertao) version is the exact same frame size with the exact same seat, so only difference is feet are slightly further from ground.

The tall (old Dakar seat) on the standard G gives more leg room and makes the bike taller than the F650GS twin
