G650X Steel Rear Sub Frame

Managed to get hold of a steel rear sub frame off a 2009 XCountry

Removed the rear footpeg brackets and had it shot blasted and powder coated

Changed the M8 threaded fixings to M6 rivnuts so an XTank or standard XChallenge's grab rails/luggage rack will fit

Just need to decide if/when I will fit it.....

Alloy that one. Look at the end castings and the welding vs. the one Nicholson has pictured. No fly's on that man!!

The fixing holes for bolting on the rear foot pegs give it away - the steel frame has welded on foot peg brackets - see my first picture . I ground the welds off the welded on foot peg brackets and removed them

I guess it depends how you use/abuse the bikes. I have done 70,000km across pamirs, mongolia, siberia including BAM twice and Old summer road plus plenty more hard stuff with the ally frame and no issues. The 3kg + weight gain over the ally one puts me off.
