and this as well...
I was always against the idea of listening to music while riding for many years. However, I've bought a GPSR and would like to be able to hear the voice prompts, and actually would quite like to listen to some tunes whilst on the move.
So to my questions.

1) I suppose I need a Starcom or Autocom type thing. I have no need to listen or speak to a pillion, or to another bike. I also really, REALLY don't want to be mithered by a mobile phone whilst riding so I won't be connecting one of those. I'll just be connecting the GPSR and a music player.
So which is the best comms device for my purpose?

2) I'll be needing some kind of MP3 player. Can anyone point me in the direction of a website/forum which will help me determine which player is most suitable for me? I've tried Googling 'which mp3 player' type requests but just end up with thousands of shop sites. I want some impartial advice on which to go for and where to get it er, for a song  as it were.

Thanks in advance. :thumb

Suggest you keep it simple. You dont need all the Autocom stuff. Just get some decent moulded earplugs with speakers, and then connect your two devices to a joiny up 2-to-1 thingy into which you can plug your headphones.

I'm sure Maplin will do such a thingy for you.

You'll then have a superb set of earplugs which you can also use on the plane when you go on holiday so you dont hear the screaming kids in the row behind you.

Regarding which MP3 player - how long have you got. I use an ipod in a handlebar bag, with the remote control clipped onto the zip so I can skip tracks, adjust volume etc. I've also used my PSP on the bike as it also has an MP3 player and most importantly a remote control. Both remotes are part of the headphone cable attachment, not infra-red ones if you were wondering what a biker would be doing pressing buttons on a handheld remove pointed frantically at his tankbag whilst heading into queuing traffic on the M25 :D

Ipod in my pocket with Airclick remote, if I'm not listening to the radio on the bars.

Y - connector to plumb in the GPS to the home-made custom earplugs.

Job done. :thumb

I have the Autocom. Speakers installed, but not the mike...

I keep my iRiver 20 gig HD player in my waterproof jacket pocket, with the remote clipped to my upper pocket. The two cords (Autocom and audio-out) are wrapped together, and come up my left side to my helmet and pocket. Works a treat. I power the iRiver from a battery pack in my pocket, or just by itself.

Cheers fellas! :beerjug:
That's saved me a few quid on the comms device.
I think I'd rather get some speakers for the helmet so I can still use earplugs, rather than go down the route of moulded plug/earphones. Any recommendations?
