Great thread this, So many getting involved. The bike looks really great.
I note that the tank has the fittings for the tank rack (bollock catcher) are you going to fit one? Ive got one on mine and it is quite useful especially if you have to lift the tank off with a full load of fuel.
Dont worry about stability, even with a full tank it can be thrown around to some tune. Beemers get some stick especially about quality these days but when it comes to stability they are pretty good I recon.

stability is not an issue, even on the run round the block this morning it was amazing just how good the bike is.

Got a picture of the tank rack and a source for them?

HPN list a tool case and a tank bag but can't see anything else.

While on the subject what size and pitch bolts are used for the rank ?

Thunder. here are some pics of the rack . Afraid the garage was a bit dark and the flash has'nt helped but if you want more detailed pics I will roll the bike out into daylight. The fittings look like rubber bobbins.

IIRC the rubber bobbins are available from Quickfit or any other exhaust place.

I'm sure that rack could be copied very very easily, by some clever bugger on the forum, it'd look nice powder coated black on a white tank

Even with leather protection I don't know how long they would survive in our climate.

Ya know its amazing the discussions we have on here, have to admit when I saw the pictures of the rack I did think that a stoppie with the twin disc system might prove hazardous to my health.

Will see what use I can find for the mounting holes, have the diamter of the bolt / stud but a standard metic thread does not fit it so might give Herr Pepper a ring tomorrow and check out what is required.

No. the bobbins are much bigger than the ones as used on the battery carrier.
Proffs idea of exhaust bits are probably more accurate. Although I called it a bollock catcher, it would be very difficult to damage yourself in this way. The rack is rounded and quite low. if a bag was attached to it it would be no more than a standard tank bag.The Triumph tank was a small pear shaped thing, most injuries of this sort in the sixties were pelvic ones caused by the rider straddling the tank and hitting the headstock.
One of the biggest advantages I have found is that even with a full tank of fuel I can lift the tank off the bike.not easy without it I think. When you think of all the stuff under the tank that you may need to get to on the road taking the tank off would be high on my list.

Was on the bike when I bought it. Previous owners had obviously done a lot of touring on the continent and beyond judging by the stickers.
As proff said, It would be very easy to have something similar made up but as the tank comes with the mounts, I would think there is something that should go on there, Ask HPN
