It's come round to my sons 18th birthday and i'm looking to get him a new p.c.

He's into his games so i'm looking for a machine that'll play the latest games. He also does some game design at college so i'd like it to be able to run programs like Adobes's 'After Effects'. As I don't want to be shelling out too often i'd also like it to be upgradeable.

I'd like to be able to get a decent one for around the £600 mark, but i'd stretch a bit on that if it's not going to get what he needs.

So, anyone got any advice, or know what i should be looking for, and where :nenau

Cheers
Andy

Sorry to Trev,

But this lot are utter rubbish and overpriced. Steer well clear

They are going crazy over at HotUKDeals on this Dell package for £293 delivered from Dell, which has the following specs:

  • 305-D05E02a - £293.82 or less
  • Intel® Core 2 Duo E4300 Processor (1.80GHz, 800MHz, 2MB)
  • English Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic
  • Dell 19" Value Flat Panel (SE197FP) - UK/Irish
  • 1024MB Dual Channel DDR2 533MHz Memory
  • 250GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst cache
  • Integrated Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 3000
  • 16X DVD+/-RW Drive
  • Dell Entry Quietkey USB Keyboard - UK/Irish (QWERTY)
  • Dell 2 Button USB Scroll Optical Mouse - Black
  • Integrated Audio with Dolby Digital 7.1 capability
  • Microsoft® Works 8.0 - English

For about £50 extra a decent graphics card can be added but it looks pretty good to me.

Go and buy it, but don't say I did not warn you...

I'd get a PS3. Then you get great gaming in HD quality on a big screen, plus a blu-ray dvd player included, plus a big online multiplayer network which is subscription free.

then add a cheap pc :thumb2

job done :)

the one specced above does not really constitute a gaming pc to my way of thinking.

this weeks current spec required for gaming.....from a gaming forum. ( http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/index.cfm?a=wiki&tag=rmp_sg_whirlpoolpcs_recommend )
i've stripped out the case, power supply monitor, KB,mouse etc.

take this along to a PC shop for a quote :thumb

He already has a PS3,XBox 360, UK and Japanese spec ps2's and just about every other consol back to the mega drive. He's also doing an e-media course with a view to going to University to do Computer Game Design.

So a p.c it is i'm afraid. Partly for Gaming and partly to help him with the college/university side of life.

Cheers
Andy
