Here's an easy one for ya.;)
I been using my Garmin 2610 for a couple of years in visual mode only but I would like to try an audio set up via a helmet speaker. I don't have an autocom or similar device - so I'm thinking of a simple pad type speaker and a connection directly from my Garmin lead. The Garmin power lead I use now has a female jack plug audio socket (think it is 2.5mm). I would like the wire to stay with the helmet so not really interested in the ear plug type. I suspect this is something my local Maplins could help me with? - If anyone has got any parts numbers / info it would be much appreciated. :thumb2

This might be what you're looking for. Not too expensive, either.

If you're put off dealing with Touratech directly - they can be a bit slow in sending stuff out - try speaking to Nippy Normans (click on the link at the top of this page). I did and something that was going to take 7 - 10 days from TT took only 4 days from NN's

Oddly enough I built some into my Arai Quantum F only last night. Had looked at those on eBay but thought I could make similar for a third of the price inc postage that they were asking.

Very pleased with the result although I've yet to try them on the bike, will have to wait until the weekend for that but with plugs in they are significantly clearer and slightly louder than the over the ear single ear piece I have been using to date. ISTR that the audio is louder still on my Quest when the unit is bike powered rather than running on the internal battery.

As it's a Quest a 3.5mm jack was fitted. This, by chance, fits the cable I ordered (dual screened) very well at the point that the cable comes out of the back of the jack, had to lube it in with a bit of MrSheen. Chance of water ingress is next to none.

The two speakers are very slim and have a lump on the back that I pressed into the polystyrene of the cheek-pads and then cut a shallow hole with a scalpel. They were then, after all the soldering was done, secured in place with a blob of hot melt glue and the cheek-pad covers replaced. Heat shrink was used over the soldered joints and all the wires were then tucked out of the way behind the lining.

The helmet looks std, even inside, as the speakers are hidden. The only telling aspect is the trailing wire. At some point I may add an additional jack socket joint close to the helmet as I have about 120cm trailing. This I run under my jacket and plug into an extension lead I run around my tank bag from the Quest mounted in front of the clocks.

Parts list from Maplin, note use of the 3.5mm jack. N,B. cable would not fit 2.5mm jack so you'd need to change the spec, use an adaptor or make up an extension stepping from 3.5mm female to 2.5mm male.

Thanks both - two viable, detailed and cost effective solutions. :thumb2 :thumb2 :thumb2
Actually Bumpkin I've got an Arai RX7 RR which, I think, isn't that different to the Quantum!
Going away now to ponder which solution to use.............

thanks again
