Garmin 2610 Mount on 1150GS

I'm looking for advice on alternative mounting positions/methods for my 2610 on an 1150GS. I've got a Touratech locking MDV mount in the usual (obvious) crossbar-mounted position BUT I'm not the tallest bloke in the world and have the seat on its lower setting. The bracket (even without the Garmin unit fitted to it) obscures the clock, gear indicator and the lower halves of the fuel and temp gauges. I've moved it left-of-center to avoid it obscuring the warning lights, in particular the left indicator warning light.

Has anyone tried an alternative mounting, like on a RAM mount over the clutch master cylinder, on a bespoke bracket over the instruments (just behind the screen) or anywhere else? I'd prefer to be able to see all the instruments without having to move to look around the GPS and although I can come up with a couple of possible solutions myself I'd prefer to hear what other people have tried and found to be successful, secure etc.

I've just bought a 2610 (still in the post) but I also sought advice (threads & owners/users) on mounting the device to give maximum vision of the "dials". However, all the guys I've spoken to say that the vibration from the MiGSel mount is unacceptable!!

Any other ideas, anyone

As an alternative to Steve's solution is it possible to buy the more expensive Touratech mount (01-065-0067-0), which has superior shock mounts (see pic) and combine with a RAM bracket somehow?

I had looked at the lockable TT mount initially but this seems to be cross-bar mounted. The one you pictured is over £100+ so I thought Migsels was more practical AND cheaper.

the metal TT bracket affects signal reception on the 2610 quite badly i'm told. external antenna required.

i have a migsel mount & in some conditions my 2610 bobs about rather more than i'd like. however, it is fine most of the time & is perfectly positioned.

Migsel, have you had any comments/issues regarding excessive vibrating?

The dash is mounted in rubbers. Hence it wobbles when you're going over bumps, and your GPS will wobble with it. I wouldn't call that vibrating, but movement / wobbling. You can limit the movement by using the short RAM arm, because that reduces the lever. I find it quite acceptable when using the GPS on paved roads or the odd gravel road.

I have had vibrations (low amplitude, high frequency) once at motorway speeds around 140 km/h constant. I think that those vibrations were caused by buffeting and resonance. I repositioned the GPS a little bit and it was fixed.

For real off-road use, I too recommend the Touratech mount with super duper damping, as Bob suggested. The position of the unit on the handlebars is not ideal, but the damping is better.

So choose a cradle and mount.

As to cradles - choice is
Garmin cradle as part of their kit
RAM cradle (RAM-HOL-GA9)
Touratech which can be attached onto the RAM mount

As to Mounts - choice is
Migsel mount with ball (needs RAM-B-201-A and RAM-B-238)
I often suggest using RAM-B-149ZA as you get the U-bolt as spare. Stumpi just called as I am writing this reply.

Hmmm, and I thought there was an easy answer! Thanks for the suggestions, though. Firstly, I think I've wasted £100 on the Touratech mount. Secondly having found pictures of MiGSel's mount, it looks as if it puts the GPS in pretty much the position that I had in mind, but much more neatly, so that's good.

MiGSel, a question for you. I bought the Touratech locking mount because I was worried about some low-life helping himself to my GPS and I don't really want to have to remove it every time I leave the bike for 30 seconds. How secure (from a theft point of view) is the mounting, or should I be asking the RAM people that? I know I can probably still use my Touratech locking mount with the RAM system but is there any point in putting a locking bracket on a RAM mount that might be easily removed itself, or.......

I shall add a thread on this subject later. I suggest you look at "Jon's" bike mount on RAM UK site in as we did something similar.

Standard GS, not an Adventure, but that probably makes no difference. It's the crossbar mounting that's causing the instrument blocking problem and the MiGSel solution may well be the answer for me.

Couldn't find Jon's bike mount on the site (even doing a site search) - can you post a link here, please?

Just been on to Ram-Man ( sounds like a porno name )
And he's suggested the correct bits for me.

Short bar, 1" ball diamond plate and 2610 mount, all to go with Migels clock mount.

Watch this space, photos to follow.

Ram-Man also does a u clamp that allows you to mount to the bars too if you wany to try that, all comes as a kit for £17 if I remember correctly.

To overcome the dials and instrument .. you could consider using RAM-B-149ZA mount and the new RAM shim (RAP-319) which will be here next week to attach onto a 1/2" cross bar rail. The short arm will lower the mount height by 1.25" . This has no reference to stumpi's comment.

Stumpi is now sorted and he says 'Just been on to Ram-Man (sounds like a porno name) ?. Well Stumpi, its something I had'nt thought of - but it makes me smile and no doubt to fellow GSer's I've met, but if,all I ever tell you .. is about your mounting, then its understandable.

Well I think I'm sorted now - MiGSel mount shortly to be heading my way from Belgium (thanks, Michel), brand new Touratech lockable MvG mount shortly to be appearing on eBay, and an order shortly to be placed for a couple of RAM bits and pieces to join things together.

Then (not soon enough) a trip to Southern Spain and back in early April to test it all
