I'm trying to register my new 2610 refurb from GPSW. I've looked at the two recent threads regarding City Navigator v9 update (NT & non-NT).

However, whilst registering the unit through the setup wizard, the software instructs me to send an e-mail to Garmin tech support (done); then asked me to go to the Garmin site to get the v9 update.

The problem is then that the site doesn't know me because the registration process is blocked because I need the v9 update.

I appear to be in a Catch 22 :spitfire

It won't let me register as I need the updated v9
It won't let me update as I'm not registered :thedummy

help please anyone!?!

i registered over the phone as i was going around in circles online,no problem and v9 is allegedly on its way.i got emails from garmin so all seems kosher good luck

thanks

Thanks PJ, I had started that but presumed I was repeating myself as the disc setup already had my details.

It has now allowed me to register the product through the webpage. :thumb2

However, the setup wizard still won't let me progress past the registration page, stating that I need to download the update (the site says it comes in the post) :blast

So I've 'ordered now' for the update to v9; I have the mapsource connection link on my desktop, so I guess I can proceed with v7 now and update when they get round to sending the v9 disk.

Unless of course I'm missing something

hope to sort this out as I'm off for a big trip in a couple of weeks :thumb2

Hi just been throught this process and await v9 dvd thru post!
as pj says you need to register first before you try for the update to v9, this means creating an account and registering the v7 that came with the kit and unlocking it, once done this you should be able to apply for the update...the funny email to techsupport i had to do was because of an error message which was in english but not as we know it, jim! guessing this was same for you?
just try registering and you should be ok!:thumb2

thanks russ and gerry :beerjug:

smashing real time advice as I typed my first response!

I take it that you've been able to use v7 in advance of getting the v9 update.

This is my first GPS so I'm a bit ignorant and haven't yet plugged the machine in, having just ploughed through the easy bit

I guess I'll move onto quick reference guide no. 2 now..........

Summerland,

this all sounded far too familiar to me...

I did exactly the same as you. Except I starte do a Friday night. Despietr allmanner of hel;pful advice and links given to me I could not request that v9 update, which ever path I took I ended up at the same page with a message telling me that there were no updates for my unit. Whilst on the phone to Garmin support I went throughthe same steps, and lo and behold there was the page allowing me to order the v9 disk.

This makes me think that the online registartion process is a two stage affair. Whilst you can register online, the process seems to require some manual intrevnetion from Garmin ti be complete. That won't happen over the weekend. If you haven't got time or patience to phone Garmin support on Monday, I would suggest waiting until tomorrow evening to try again, you may find that suddenly you are able to order that disk. You will need to register CNv7 first though, if you have not done that already...

BTW, despite ordering, and being assured by Garmin that the disk would be with me in less than 10 dyas, I still haven't got it!

Suggest you go with CN v7 for now, it works fine.

thanks Citybum

Garmin website allowed me to order v9 and sent a confirmation e-mail :thumb2

I gathered from previous threads that v9 disks are taking a while to arrive :( so I'm not holding my breath.

So I was going to set to with the 2610 itself with v7, however GPSW only provided a measly 128Mb card so I'll be lucky to fit Yorkshire on the bloody thing :rob

So I've now just ordered a 2Gb card.

Cheers everyone for the responses, countdown's at 19 days to get it up and running, otherwise it'll be back to the paper maps.
