Ahh, I was under the impression that the nav 6 was the same as the 660. It’s the nav 5 that’s the same.
It does seem to be a recurring theme that the new model has more problems than the one it replaces. I’ll hang on to my old 660 I think. It just works.
Trouble is the 660 can no longer fit the full Europe maps on it.

I have cut out and moved this and the subsequent replies.

there will not be any more map updates for it anyway, from Garmin but I guess you could try OSM.
There better had be updates as I have lifetime mapping updates for my 660. Surely by not supplying said updates Garmin are breaking the contract?

Lifetime refers to the product support from Garmin after ceasing manufacture (maybe 10 years?) - not yours ! 🤔

I would have presumed it was for the lifetime of the device. Said device still works perfectly so it’s not dead. Me thinks Garmin are trying it on, trying to get owners to buy another sat nav.

you can presume all you like, did you read the "Lifetime Update" T&C?

much the same applies to any technology you buy, whether it is an upgrade path to Windows 11, updates to Android or security patches. It's all about the product lifetime as defined by the maker.

If what you say is correct I won’t be buying any lifetime updates with my next sat nav as it’s just not worth the money. Lifetime should mean until the device is dead.

The demise of updates for the 660 and earlier devices has been discussed on these pages since it was announced earlier this year that they had released the final update.

I've had 9 years of updates for my Zumo 390 and these will continue as it uses the newer NTU maps as used on some of the current devices. I think that a decade of map updates included in the original retail price is pretty good going. The 660 has to be 15 years old by now so I really don't know why we have your little tantrum! You've had decent value.

My device didn’t come with lifetime map updates I paid around five years ago for them. Five years isn’t a very long lifetime updates period. If at the time of buying Garmin had said I would only get five years of updates I would not have bought them.

https://www.garmin.com/en-GB/legal/lmdisclaimer/. This is Garmins terms of use with regard to "Lifetime Maps"

The latest map for the 660 was released in July 2024 and is NT 2025.1 I have a BMW NAV IV which is basically the same unit. Happily Garmin units can run with Garminised Open Street maps. I have an old Streetpilot 2610 from 2004 which runs recent OSM maps. These can be downloaded from a few sources for free or you can make your own using mkgmapp and splitter.

I think the Garmin 660 was released sometime in 2008 so they have supported it with mapping for quite a while.
