Garmin Express

My old version of G Express (2.3.8) automatically downloaded the update and asked if I wanted to load it, so now have 2.4.2 (77)

- I am not sure that i changed any settings, but I do not seem to remember previous versions of GE doing this

Just checked my PC version for updates, v2.4.4.0 installing now.

Hopefully a change for the better...

Keep us informed.. I may give it a go...:)

Well, I tried to update with my previously installed version of GE.

First attempt failed with an error message right at the end. I was attempting to update both Zumo 660 and PC with the 2014.40 mapping. The issue seemed to be one of permissions with the PC install but this made both fail.

I then despairingly returned to using MapUpdater. However, this returned a similar error.

I tried again with GE and this time unchecked the box below highlighted in red.

The install to both PC and GPS went without a hitch. It took less than 30 minutes so must have used a set of install files for the new mapping that were downloaded at the first attempt. I then proceeded to update my Nuvi (both have lifetime mapping subscriptions) and that took a similar amount of time to complete.

All in I'm happy with the way that GE performed apart from the fact that it could have maybe alerted me about the permissions problem straight away rather than after a 3 hour download. At least I only had to do that once.

A quick heads up: my GE downloaded a new version this evening (2.4.3)

Just updated Nav V via Garmin Express and Mac - went very smoothly approx. 3 hours for completion.

My computer/Garmin Express automatically downloaded a new software update this morning: v 3.0.2 (0)

I will have to check if this version recognises my Nav V or whether it is still incompatible?

Do you use Windows on your Mac?

Do you use Windows on your Mac?

No, pure mac here!! One of the reasons for going the Mac route was to get away from Windows, so then adding it via parallels or whatever was never a consideration for me

Took me about 3 years to lose all need for windows at work, there's still something I need to do monthly to an access database I inherited, but it lives on another windows server now and I just use the Remote Desktop client to get to it.

I quite like the new version of express. It's easy to tell it to install to mac and device, works out you only need Western Europe on the internal flash, and works reliably. It has been iffy in the past, but the latest is fine.

Same with basecamp, latest one can do multi-day trips, and find you hotels near sensible stopping points based on time.

Over time they are likely to spend more time on it as windows dies off.

Happy to report that this latest version of GE recognised my Nav V (which earlier versions had reported was "incompatible")

Got a automatic download of version 3.0.3.0 (3000300) this morning. Only took a matter of seconds or so. No idea what has changed though
