Garmin Forerunner

Does anybody have any knowledge of the Forerunner GPS? Am vaguely thinking of purchasing one. I've seen that they are a hell of a lot cheaper in the States, and I'm over there next month. Am I right in thinking they don't have a basemap within, therefore it won't matter where I get the unit from.
Anyone idea perhaps of another forum where there are those as intersted in such a device as we are here about the larger automotive Garmins?

Not sure if you need an account or not.

Wouldn't recommend mounting it on a GS tho' - it might look, well, a bit silly and your right no routing but having one in the pannier for emergency might be a good idea.
