How and where do you all fit your GPS Units? (Garmin Street Pilot specifically)

I've seen RAM Mounts fixed to the bar that goes over the clocks or to the Handlebars or to an after market Crossbar. I've seen touratech mounts on Crossbars.

I have opted for the Touratech mount and the Touratech "Over Clocks Bracket" which should place the GPS above the clocks nicely. I say "Should" coz I also bought the Cockpit Cover, that fills in the spaces round the clocks & gives you an extra accessory socket.

Dilemma: If you fit the Cockpit Cover, seemingly, you can't fit the "Over Clocks GPS Mount Bar"

Anyone done this?

I have a Navigator II mounted on the handlebar risers but I am going to move it to sit above the clocks. I think it will be better above the clocks:

(1) Will not be obscured by the tank bag.

(2) To get around the tank bag problem I have to tilt the device nearly to horizontal. The sun shines on the screen and I can't see it too well.

(3) Having it above the clocks should mean that I do not have to drop my line of sight so far. Safer I guess.

I can't help with your other problem as I don't have a cockpit cover. Is it not possible to cut some of the cockpit tidy away using a Dremel or something similar? If all else fails, send it back and ask for a refund.

Got a SPIII, mounted it using a Navigator 1 mount on the handlebar risers as well. Did move it above the clocks using a RAM mount on the frame behind the clocks. Couldn't stand watching the thing vibrate a tickover so put it back on the handlebars, much more stable.

Garmin GPSMap 60C. I have mine up on the left handlebar on a RAM mount. It is positioned there because I can easily reach the buttons with my non-throttle hand and do not have to wrestle with the tank bag to reach it. There are a few simple things, such as zooming in and out, that I will do when rolling, so having the unit within easy reach is important to me.

Have the Navigator 2 currently mounted on the riser clamps but have ordered one of Mottorad Concepts bike specific mounts to move it above the instrument consol.

From looking previously at the options for Touratech I had read that their mount would not fit if you used the consol so I'd send both items back to the supplier and invest in a different mount nd a can bus connector to make use of the accessory socket already fitted on the bike at the headstock.

Yeah Mr Monkey, when I loaned the Demo. 1200, I attached my SPlll to the silver bar that runs round the top of the clocks, via a RAM mount, then got annoyed when it bounced around at tik-over and kept dropping down over speed bumps etc.

I've just been out in the garage, since my first post and offered up the GPS Bar with the TT mount and there's no way on earth that it'll fit in behind the screen, without being so far forwards that all the clocks are obscured so I've just fixed it to the TT Crossbar a la 1150. I hate Tank Bags anyway, good thing really!

So now I'm off to fit my other toys, as the bike is totally stripped of all panels - off to paint them tomorrow.

It's cold out there

Yep... done it that way.
Good thing is that you don't have to divert your eyes too much to have a crafty glance... bad thing is that the TT mount rattles like Hell when you've not got the SPIII mounted :D

I'm using a Garmin 2610 with the Touratech 'over the clocks bracket' plus a Touratech locking mount for the GPS unit itself. The way I have set it up, the rev counter is partly obscured but that hasn't been a problem so far.

The GPS is easy to see without having to divert eyes too far off the road. Not sure about the cockpit cover issue though - I use an additional BMW auxilliary power socket fitted on the left hand side of the fairing and that works OK.

I found that if you tighten the GPS mount too much it does vibrate a bit at tickover - loosening it a bit did the trick.

Tom Tom (the original type), fitted with a bespoke bracket onto the bar behind the clocks. The base of the cradle just rests on the speedo housing.

Tried it on the bars, but ageing eyesight (aged 50+) works better at the longer distance to the under-screen position.

Nippy Norman's taller screen on slot 2 again, just clears the top of the GPS.

YMMV.

I suggest you have a word with the Belgium wizard .. Migsel (his site is migsel.com)

I'll bring pics, late tomorrow or early Thursday :)

Cheers,

Fitted and road tested the Motorrad Concepts mount and repositioned the GPS over the clocks.

Not a hint of vibration, very impressed with the quality and ease of fitting the mount to the bike.

Excuse the dirty screen but I was out playing in the wet! :D

...not compatible with tobinators. Fixing buffeting was higher on my priority list than a nice GPS fixing.

Looks the biz!

Tell me, do you fasten this bracket with screws / bolts from the top (Screen Side) or from the bottom (Clocks side) of the bike bit (Silver bit between the screen mounts & the round-the-clocks bar).

Reason I ask, is that I've just fitted the TT clocks surround and the under-screen cockpit cover. If your bracket screws in from the top, it'll work on my set-up but from the underneath, there is no access now.

Sounds complicated I know but it will look better than GPS mounted on the crossbar, like I've jusst done.

The mount is fixed from the underside of the fame brace using the existing triangular holes.

It's worth mentioning that with the unit in this higher position it's a darn site "safer" to use as you are not looking down as far as the old position.

Just take the cockpit cover whatcha macallit off and put it back with this in place. :thumb

Alright, here come the G1200PS mount pics.

Empty mount from the front:

Quest mounted:

Dual device mounted.
I know it doesn't make much sense with two GPS's but I didn't have anyting else there.
I'm sure you get the idea. You can mount 3 things if you must

There, I hope you like them, 'coz I drove all across Holland today for these :D

I'll sort out the webstore tomorrow, it's past midnight here.

Why fanx for the info but mounted from underneath, usig thevery same triangular holes, is the front cockpit plate, with the under-screen plate fastening to the other plate from the top, sandwiching the silver triangular-holed thingy, so I guess it wouldn't fit as well.

I've got to think of a saving grace as I can't have what I want, so I'll just imagine an "Over-the-bars" off with my undercarriage being left on the GPS mount as a trophy!

slightly off this post's subject but you have the SWM Crash Bars dunt ya? Do you have to remove anything other than the short bar that goes under the sump plate, to do an oil change? Also, can you rest your feet on the bars over the heads, or does the "Drop-away / curve" in the top bar prevent this luxury?
