A lot of folks reckon this is a better tool than the 2610 or SP3 with the update for automotive routing, the screen is quite a bit bigger than the SP3.
It holds 3000 way points instead of 500 and gives a count down to those points that are marked as hazards, very handy for speed cameras.

I think if I was in the market this would be the one.

Stop it.

I'm trying not to buy one :D

GPSmap 276C v SP2610

276C positives;
Brilliant sharp sunlight readable screen
Battery pack for off-bike use
Multiple datums and position grids
3000 waypoints
100 proximity alarms
10,000 point tracklog
Faster processor (altho SP is still fast)

276C negatives;
Use non-standard memory cards with max size 256 MB
Not 'packaged' so total price will be more

The touchscreen on the SP is both a positive and negative; for address entry it is better than the 276C but for zooming the 276C buttons are better.

The 276C now has the auto-routing avoid and custom routing options.

The screen is only a little bigger than a SP but it is much sharper than any other GPS and almost iPaq like.

The only thing I would say about the 276C is that if you have not had another GPS or a navigation background then you will find that there is more of a learning curve with the GPSmap 276C.

proximity alarm

Hi.

do you know if there is an option to have these 100 prox alarms via the speaker?

until now( v2.94 beta), I can hear a beep-beep in the unit itself, but nothing thru the speaker
:(

Bug V3.00 ???

When on Automotive mode:

Compass page active;

press menu and choose 'Set up page layout'

We have a new format : "Panel" .

But what it does is : remove Compass page from display !!

Can you test that?

It seems to me that this panel is for the 296C ( aicraft mode ) ??? :confused:

Go on Jon. You know you want one
I'll stick with my SPIII for the mo. :rolleyes:

Miss the compass I had on the "V", track back etc etc tho.

It's the limiting 256mb cards that are stopping me at the moment.

Yeah, I could buy more cards, but that's even more money.

The moment they update them to "flash", that'll be the time - they'll probably update the processor too :D

Yep, mine does that too

276C v3.0 update bug

Rang Garmin today. It seems that the software is written for the 296 (aircraft version) and then modded for the 276C. The programmer has forgotten to remove the panel option on the compass page. The page should just have the 3 other options.
No doubt it will be removed in the next software update.

Sailor

PS Thought about trying to upload the v. 3.0 software for the 296, but the warning in the garmin site suggests that trying to load software for a different unit will lock up the unit and require return to garmin for unlock. No doubt at some cost.

But you already have the cards to use in your 276C and the 276C processor is MUCH faster than the SPIII

....go on. You know you want to.

Thanks . :beer:

My 276c after the update (v 3.0) has the same bug on the Compass page plus when on night mode some times the buildup areas (around streets) apear in cream colour (as in day mode) rather than black.

Sounds like this is the change to the metro area colour;
On map screen - menu - setup map - area - 'Metro' is probably auto or a zoom scale

Turn it off (Metro is normally off by default)

Nice try, but I'd need to sell the SPIII with the card in it............D
