looks like I've broken my first GPS mount today, had one of the standard Garmin plastic ones, it does the job until you come off and clobber it with a boot :(

just had a quick look online, my options seem to be
1. another Garmin plastic mount - cheap enough
2. a RAM plastic mount
3. a Touratech metal mount

I kind of like the idea of the metal mount, but the TT one is £85 plus postage and I can buy a lot of plastic mounts for that.

Is there anyone out there making a more substantial mount than the Garmin/RAM plastic one, but cheaper than TT?

Any thoughts or suggestions on the subject more than welcome

I,ve had a gps 60 since they first came out, waited impatiently for a ram mount to be released...perfect bit of kit :thumb

also got a 60csx with tt mount but if I,m honest I prefer the ram mount.

HTH.

Cheers guys, that's great feedback for the RAM mount.

tell me are you using these on GS's or trailies? It take you point Roddy about using it on a mountain bike, but I wonder if it gets as much of a clobbering as it can on a trailie :(

Enabb can I ask what it is you prefer about the Ram to the TT mount?

I take it you just get the craddle and have to buy what ever bits you need to mount it seperately? How easy is it to add and remove the GPS? The Garmin one the craddle and GPS come away from the mount together, but this all looks like it stays attached to the bike???

Sorry to pound you with more questions guys.

edit : aint the internet a wonderful thing... just answered some of my own questions... the italic questions answered...

Enabb, please give me a price if you want rid of the tt mount when your Ram Mount arrives.......:P

Cool, cheers Enabb. GPS Warehouse's website seems to be offline at the moment, but from what I can tell the ram mount should be about £30-40 including mount, so if it's as good as you guys say, then definately worth looking at. I just need to work out which mount bits I need...

got some spares from my 550 which will help me work it out too :)

Always interested to see pics :D

pics

sorry its late....

first pic is the diamond base needed to go with the mount its self.....

Never had any problems with it coming loose or gps falling out of mount etc, have used this same mount on 2x1150 and wife,s 650 over last 5+ years....

sure RAM MAN could help with part numbers if yer stuck, he,s a top bloke...HTH.

Many thanks Enabb, sounds like a mate of mine has gone for the TT option as he's already got through three plastic Garmin mounts, but I'll give this one a shot.

I only really use mine on the 450 (I've got different one for the GSA) so I've not got as much room as you, but hopefully I can find something that works mount wise.

Hi Guys,

Seems I have been missed :comfort .. had the dreaded gastric bug

I have posted the you tube vid showing how its secured as well inside this section :augie

Cradle is RAM-HOL-GA12 with RAM-B-238 attached ( or as mount its RAM-B-149Z or RAM-B-149ZA)

HTH

Ah, Ram-man, I was wondering where you were... Sorry to hear you've not been well. I emailed sales earlier in the week as the website is still being renovated :augie

I think I've worked out which bits I need, I just wasnt sure what the difference was between the 149, 149Z or 149ZA - I guess the ZA is the same length as the clamp shipped with the Zumo 550? As it looks like a shorter one??? RAM-B-201U-A??

what I want to do is mount the GPS on the handle bars of a WR450, but keep it in tight and neat enough that I dont catch it when I exit through the front :D

maybe it'll be easier to call you tomorrow :D

hope you're feeling better

:D I'm back onto solid food and

Ok lets unravel all this..
RAM-B-149 (u-bolt 1" only stainless steel + 3" arm + diamond base)
RAM-B-149Z (u-bolt 1", 1.25" and RAP-319 shim + 3" arm + diamond base)
RAM-B-149ZA (u-bolt 1", 1.25" and RAP-319 shim + 1.75" short arm + diamond base)

yes, Zumo has short 1.75" arm RAM-B-201-A (TT Rider 2 gets 3" arm)

.. and before anyone argues thats not the length of the arm, its measured ball centre to ball centre now lets see if anyone can measure it between ball to ball :dabone
