Has anyone downloaded and used this yet?

I got an email telling me that version 2012.20 was available and when I clicked on update it offered me Garmin Lifetime Updater software. I downloaded this and ran it, plugged my Zumo 550 in and it started to download the new mapset.

However, I am on Plus net and get free bandwidth between midnight and 8 a.m. so I stopped the download and changed the schedule in the settings to download between these times.

My question is this. Do I just leave the computer turned on with the GPS connected overnight in order for the download to work, or do I need to do something else?

Can't find anything in the Garmin download guide on their website or in the FAQ.

Has anyone tried this?

Just leave the download ticking over, and wait for the next prompt, the first one took ages, further updates have been quicker.

Did it last night for a 660 on a fast connection.

All seems to have worked OK but the installation (as opposed to download) took some time - 1hour :nenau

Make sure on installation to choose device and computer

tried it last night :(
Download to computer and zumo at just under one hour, usual warning about space required on zumo so chose central europe.
Then a lifetime updater window pops up and tells me a new map is available and will download after.
After what I thought?:nenau

Phone call to garmin and spoke to mark who I gave remote access to my computer.
He was unsure what the popup window was about.
So he bypassed the lifetime updater and started a download for 2012.20 all over again:blast
All seemed to go ok until I turned on the bmw zumo and found that the dealer database no longer worked:eek: FFS.

Another long phone call to garmin and they recommend that I update my dealer database:augie
But they are unable at this time to tell me where one might find said database and suggest that I phone bmw:toungincheek

After a bit of searching I found the 2011 dealer database and installed
it:bounce1 and all seems ok.
Have removed lifetime updater from my computer:type

I downloaded and installed Lifetime Updater last night, set it and let it do it's stuff overnight. This morning it said that it had successfully downloaded mapping and presented me with an install button. Clicked this and got a rather vague error message, seems to be some sort of permissions issue.

Gave up and used the traditional update method, which thankfully they still offer, this found the data already downloaded and installed to PC and GPS in less than an hour.

Not particularly impressed with the new Updater :(
