Garmin map updates bigger than 550 memory !

Problem solved by a visiting Dutch biker- He re loaded the maps and away we went! Other problem of guest not being able to hear the route instructions solved by turning his bluetooth on.

I have a related problem on my 550. After the last upgrade I made, about a year ago, the unit takes great delight in telling me its memory is full, and also that I have far too many way points (in fact I have none) and it wont play any more. If I go into the trip log and delete its contents which are never more than 1%, it may deem me worthy of a route.
Latest game it wants to play is to give me "as the crow flies" directions. Dead straight lines everywhere?
I'd like to take what I can out of the memory and run the SD card for routing instead of the internal memory. If anyone gets the drift of what I'm trying to do could they tell me which of the files, gmapbmap.img,gmapprom.img etc I can delete without affecting the units operation to free up memory space.

many many thanks and a hearty well done if you can understand my cack handed way of describing my problem.

FWIW, if you are using either mapsource or Basecamp (which has an extra Mapinstall), simply choose the option to save everything to PC/Mac.
You can then choose whichever map sections that you wish and export to the Zumo
In that days of the Quest, we had to select maps around route and you can always use that option again. Who needs all of Europe anyway :D

Not used the base camp thing though it is on my computer. I need to free the unit memory of some of the stuff on there and run the maps from an SD card, how do I free or delete useless data from the memory?

Whats the cost of a 2013 download onto a big enough sd card then?? And can files be re-copied onto more than one sd card?? If so what would the charge be for a map updated sd card from a fellow tosser ,technologys beyond me :blast :comfort

I upgraded for the first time this weekend and gotr totally lost. I have a folder on the PC with a list of numberered folders but no way of knowing what map is what. I also have no idea how to load them onto the 550. Any advice greatly welcome before I go to easter europe in a couple of weeks.

Bring it with you on Saturday and we'll get it sorted:thumb

Cool - I thought being a bit computer litterate I could do it myself. Again the rule of a little knowledge is a dangerous thing is proved correct as after 6 hours of downloading maps to the PC the end result was a marked increase in blood pressure, my neighbours children learning a whole new lexicon of swear words (I blame Skygod for teaching me these) and absolutly zero updating of the sat nav.
