Garmin MapSource for Norway....

Having visited the Garmin website & noticed the 'third party cartography' supplier for Norway, Belanor, I made an enquiry of them to see about acquiring more detailed mapping for my planned trip back to Norway next summer.

This morning I received their response:

Hello, City Navigator Europe will be updated in Jan 2004 and will include the whole of Norway...

That's good news, thanks!

A bit late for me, as I went there last June, but I will be back I'm sure.

I managed quite nicely using the base map and my pda with TomTom maps though. And to begin with, there are not that many roads in Norway. It's not like you have 10 options to get from A to B like we're used to.

Anyway, if the new map version will cover all of Norway, that'll be great!

There's a firmware update for the 2610 and an update to Mapsource (the software that goes on your PC!) - both released 3 October.

Why do you need a GPS then???

I have a GPS, so I like to use it...

And I don't like messing around with maps on my tankbag. If I can prepare a daytrip in about 15 minutes and not look the map for the rest of the day, I will. Much safer and more relaxed riding!

But hey, I'm not twisting anybody's arm. If you like maps better, by all means, use maps and forget about GPS.

You don't. But to get there from Calais via Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark & Sweden, it helps.

Don't worry, 5.3 contains just some minor bug fixes you most probably won't need. The changes are mentioned on the garmin site.
