Garmin Navigator 6

Correct I was directed to the Garmin site where I paid for the repair. I don't recall seeing a prompt to print a label.

This was part of the second email:

We have also requested a UPS pre-paid shipping label, this is only available via the email confirmation and cannot be retrieved from the website. Please be sure to disregard the address details on the website and go straight to your confirmation email to take advantage of the pre-paid label.

I have also included some instructions which will assist you in completing the required steps:
1/Please enter your email address to complete the checkout as a guest or sign into your existing Garmin account
2/Fill in your shipping and billing information, then click "Proceed to Payment"
3/If there is a charge, select a payment option and enter the required details, then click "Place Order"
4/Upon completion, you will receive a confirmation email with the details of your transaction and shipping instructions

Click Download Label, Select Print Label and then select Schedule a Collection or Find a Location
Please note: if you select Schedule a Collection you will need to enter your tracking number, found on the printed label, into Section 1 to benefit from the free collection.

This is the final confirmation email. No link for a label download. There was a bit more on the bottom basically giving decription of unit I was submitting and the unit they were dispatching.

The link to the label on mine was below the option 2. (As on your screen shot) . Maybe reply to the first email you had from "websales" & tell them you havent got a link for a label.

A phone call to Garmin today revealed that they had failed to tick a box at their end authorising a label. They cancelled my unit exchange and then recreated it. This time it showed the option to print the label which I was able to download from UPS immediately.

They were pretty quick sending my refurb, so you should have it before end of next week. Just keep fingers crossed it continues to work ok. Went fir quick ride our with mine today and it behaved despite all the abuse I've given it to try and get it to fail before 90 day warranty is up.

Very happy to report that after all the issues my replacement Nav 6 arrived by UPS today and it is the latest Make Life a Ride updated version which is a bonus. Hopefully it proves reliable.:thumb2

Seems my initial Euphoria in getting latest 'Make Life a Ride' refurb unit is short lived. having received it just before Christmas. All I've done is back it up on my computer. Seemed to work OK sat at the desk. Today I went for the first ride of the season if only brief and to check out the new Nav.
All downhill. Wouldn't initially switch on in the bike mount and when it did none of the touch buttons would work. They acknowledge being touched but nothing happened. Tried a reboot but stuck on the 'Do you want to erase date Yes/No option'. Removed the battery and re installed. No better. So its a call to Garmin on Monday. Not good.
So despite what looks like a brand new screen and case whats inside??

My 5th replacement arrived 24 Dec, failed this Monday. Currently waiting on the latest replacement...

5 ?!!!!!. Not encouraging. What on earth is going on? I wonder if the attrition rate of new units is so high?
For there to be 'Refurbished' units there has to be defective units submitted for refurbishment.

I've had 4 of these utterly useless and very, very, very expensive units. The last one was a REFRESH version, which Garmin proudly told me will fix ALL the issues. IT DID NOT and failed almost immediately with ALL the usual issues of ghosting + one or two I had not experienced before. The unit turned itself to full day time brightness in the dead of night on an unlit motorway and proceeded to blindingly strobe pages in quick succession directly into my line of sight. Moreover the unit then decided it wanted to go somewhere, again entirely of its own volition, telling me to do a 'U' turn on the motorway. Thank you Garmin.

On the upside Garmin have replaced all the units without too much fuss. With that in mind I was shocked to read that Garmin have had the utter gaul and temerity to charge some £140 to repair units they know will and are failing, criminal deception comes to mind.

Meanwhile the silence from BMW, which is not usual for BMW regarding any faulty part with their name on it, is completely deafening.

Garmin need to step up, soak up the financial pain and offer ALL Garmin Navigator 6 owners a free replacement with a Garmin XT....at the very least, before someone gets hurt.

The last one was a brand new BMW boxed Nav 6 of the latest type.

I think it's a good business model - sell one very expensive nav and once out of warranty sell refurbs for £140 with a very short warranty. You're effectively leasing them...

Glad I'm on the new cradle now, not perfect but at least it works. Never go back to a separate nav again, even managed to get off road mapping using other free apps.

I got up to the sixth replacement, which I promptly sold without unwrapping, and bought an XT. Hard to believe they can make such decent gear in general, but fall down so badly on the BMW variant.

Coming from a 2018 K1600 GTL I had little confidence that any Nav/Entertainment/Communications hard or software produced by BMW, or with their name on would work. I have to say I've been pleasantly surprised with my 2021 GSA, its TFT and the Connected Ride App all of which have worked very well. That said, if you want to ride long distances into remote areas it is, IMHO essential to have two independent Nav's. I was tempted by the BMW ConnectedRide Cradle as well. However, after much research, I've gone down the Zumo XT route, housed in a Touratech Cradle, replacing the Nav 6 and its BMW Nav Prep on the 12mm accessories bar, which by any measure is a very, very expensive, constantly failing (I've had 4 replacements) and utterly useless brick.

To complete that new set up I've put my Samsung S21 in a Ram Mount wireless charger cradle, fixed to the base of the left mirror with Ram Mounts and wired directly to the bike battery via an Optimate USB/Controller that monitors the bikes battery and shuts down the power to the charger if need be, avoiding any excessive discharge. The cradle is very, very secure but still allows one gloved hand to remove it easily, which is very useful when paying for fuel contactlessly using the phone.

It will be interesting to hear how you get on with the BMW Cradle and what access it allows to the phone via the Wonder Wheel etc.

Stay safe and well.

Regards,

Tony

I’m not to interested in the entertainment side of things, I like simplicity so only having one item to connect is a win. The bmw app is a good road riders app, could better but it’s pretty good. Off road riding is where it falls down but there are other apps you can use. As I’ve said before my bike is pre tft.

Garmin rung Moday. Packed and delivered to UPS drop off Mon afternoon. Collection would be next day, Tuesday. Exchange unit delivered 09.00 Thursday. Not a bad turn around. Lets hope this one performs as it should (Make Life a Ride Unit).

My new Make Life a Ride Unit lasted less than 2 months, as I think Wapping's did.

I think the replacement will be a refurbed old model - when those useless fucks at UPS finally get around to delivering it.

Reading the above compared with my own experiences of the ghosting on my first Nav 6 which didn’t start to have an issue until it was 4 years old.

When mine went wrong I could see that the screen wasn’t flat, almost like the battery was swelling internally (it wasn’t), the new unit did 5,000 miles in 6 months and never missed a beat.

I wonder if it’s a Nav problem or perhaps a bike problem affecting the Nav as some seem to have multiple issues and some don’t.

I’ve just sold mine now and gone for an XT as I wanted a new Nav for the van and thought I’d get something I can use in the van and on the bike as the Nav 6 doesn’t have a speaker, otherwise I would have kept it.

Just my thoughts.

I had thought of that but dismissed the idea as I doubt very much Garmin would continue to replace them if it was a bike issue.

They don't even ask to have the unit returned for assessment before agreeing to replace.

Garmin sell a car kit with an integral speaker for the Nav 6.
Works really well for me.
