Best Bike Rides

Hi Whatton,

I'm still a pretty much a novice wit GPS apart form basic operations but was going to try and learn more about route plotting. I thought transposing some of the Best Rides into GPS Routes might be a worthwhile exercise. I don't want to waste time if it's already been done though. A quick Google suggests not or that whoever might have done and published this wasn't brazen enough to say they'd filched from the BMF book. The actual rides are of course a matter of opinion.

Cheers

Hi Whatton

I wonder if you know how to access locations of motorcycle parking in London in a way that can be loaded into a Garmin Zumo?

(I read the whole thread but didn't see that being done before).

Thanks in advance for any input.

Simon

As stated earlier..perhaps the Flunch chain of food places in France....pay a basic price for a basic dish eg hash browns, bacon burger......and then help yourself to the veggie carousel buffet style...you can even go up for 2nds....ideal for hairy arsed bikers on tour...I feed a family of 5 here with desert and drinks for about 45 euros....Buffalo Grill,as a pointer will set me back about 120 euros for the family...

:)

Brilliant thread. Thanks for all of it.

Anyone know how to make custom symbols for your POI's?

Try the attached :thumb2

Make sure the file name of the .bmp icon file is exactly the same as the waypoint file as thats how the gps unit associates the icon to the waypoint :)

Apologies for being dense :blast

But can these Waypoints be loaded onto a BMW Navigator II..?

And if so, how..?

Garmin GDB file; This loads relatively quickly into Mapsource for checking out the huge number of sites, a GPX file would take ages to load. Save from Mapsource as a GPX and import the lot to your Garmin using POI Loader.

If you have an older Garmin just select the sites in the area you're visiting and paste into another instance of Mapsource before doing a send to device. Older units, such as the Quest and SP 2610, only hold a finite number of POIs, 500 ISTR. Obviously the full list won't fit onto these so some pre planning will be required.

TomTom OV2 file; converted this using GPS Babel, not sure how well it works though. Will try on my phone later (EDIT; seems to work OK).

I'll have to see how this whacks my bandwidth, files are quite large... but there for the time being, we'll see how it goes.

Just downloaded it - great stuff - thanks :thumb2

If your bandwidth gets clobbered, let me know and I'll chuck it on a server at work.

cheers
Matt
