Tell me the technical reasons why the 2015 R1200RT gear change is so much slicker than the 2015 R1200GS gear change - the engine is basically the same is it not?
Is it?
Are they are better "gearchangers" than us GS boys?
Well the loan R1200RT LC that I have been given whilst the dealer does some work on my 2015 GS is a lot slicker - I would like to know the reason why.
Oh no, are you having problems with your 2015 bike?![]()

What about the heated grips are they better as well !!

Your bike changes gear so there is nothing wrong with it and it is all subjective and in your imagination.

All the time you been saying your gearbox was fine, when in Essenes its always been shite, how are the heated grips are they better as well !!!!

Well coming from a 14 GS (with Shit Grips) to a new RT, for some reason it is smoother, the RT has the bigger flywheel, but so does the GS now. The Gear change on my RT is almost up to Japanese standards, and the heated grips are very hot through their 5 different presets
On topic, no idea why it should be, but when I had a 15 plate GSA as a loaner while my RT was in for a service, that was a clunker just like my GS. The GSAP is a lot better on downshifts than it was on my GS, must admit I miss the suspension travel on some of the roads up north![]()
Engineer, the one you had may have been OK. There are still plenty of RTs with clunky boxes. My uncle for example is pretty horrific and that's a 2015 version model. The one I rode on a test ride was great, the one I now ride at work is not as good.
One thing I am now clear on is that no two LC boxes behave the same. There are so many owners out there when you chat to them who aren't overly happy with the box.
Back to your Op though, is the gearing not different on the RT to the GS? It certainly feels like they are completely different ratios.

True , the gs allows you to still feel the enjoyment of riding a bike , I know it's personal preference , but the RT is like riding a car , is so in the bubble (ie surrounded by a huge screen and bike) that the engine sound becomes more evident . For once I agreeI road home tonight on it without ear plugs, unlike this morning's ride down the A1 and A14 - and it is a bit clunky at low speed, but there was less clutch drag compared to the GS and never clonked into first, just wondering what the difference was as all GSes clonk into 1st.
The RT LC is bloody lovely to ride though, I would leep one in the garage just for the long motorway journeys - the WC GS is still the best compromise for me though.
