on inserting the key in the ignition today the gear indicator was showing 2nd gear when bike was in neutral

so had to start the bike with clutch engaged and when riding the bike the other gears are showing the correct reading except 2nd gear where the gear indicator is blank so even if bike is in neutral it wont start with side stand down as the computor thinks its in 2nd

anyone else had any similar problems

sept 04 54 reg yellow, grey panels and black seat wire wheels
3,400 miles
no problems upto now

Have you jet washed it recently or been through heavy rain or a puddle?

It's usually water in the gear sensor switch which is near the swing arm bearing ( difficult to get to)

It normally dries out and sorts itself out.

The gear sensor is on the back of the engine block, near the swinging arm. You can see it if you look in past the gear lever. Try spraying it with a load of WD40, I had this problem and that sorted it.
