Hello the German shitebox is disappointing again

Riding home tonight in the fast lane of motorway display starting flashing random gears and miss firing. I managed to get to left lane before total loss of power.
Whilst tried to carry on forward to pull off (no hard shoulder where it happened) engine light would go from red to amber and give full power for a moment then back to red and nothing.
Once safe I disconnected the battery for five minutes and it reset and I made it home
Any ideas?

I’ve heard of and had experience of the negative battery terminal loosening causing total power loss . Nip it up tight and see if that resolves your issues.

Thanks
It was tight when I took it off to reset the bike

Which particular model of German shitebox?

I've had one on my Hexhead, LC & current Twin cam

I've also had Noco & Oddysey batteries with no problems

I’d heard they were unreliable
There has been plenty of battery chat on here over the years. People have references, certainly, but I don't recall any reports of Motobatt unreliability.

Personally I've used them on airheads, oilheads and my Guzzi - all of which require a decent amount of cranking on a cold winter's morning - without issue.

Well that’s good then
I’ll take the battery off before I feed the bike to a frag.
My fault for straying away from Japanese I suppose 😂

For those who find this thread whilst searching online..

Had bike delivered to bmw specialist.
They said they couldn’t find any fault codes to cause it and couldn’t get bike to do it.
I collected the bike yesterday and the neutral light wasn’t working..
It lasted until I got onto motorway then when I changed into sixth gear display went blank and it started to cut out momentarily. Dropped down to fifth to leave and it stopped missing and gear indicator came back on.
Ordered gear indicator pot/sensor yesterday from motorwerks and it arrived this morning.
Fitted it , no need to calibrate and provisionally bike it much happier

I think on later bikes with tc , qc etc the indicator also needs to be good for the ecu to read gear

i wonder ???
if the ecu doesn't know what gear it is in ...does it have different maps for different gears ?
if so, no gear signal , ecu goes F.U. and drops into limp mode ?
i am used to people putting weird problems in front of me ( i do Guzzi's ) .

i had a v9 Bobber turn up the other week , Frog on board , over here for the weekend, ABS light flashing . ABS sensors do speed and ABS . bike would start and rev ....but not move=cut out when i went to drive it.
plugged in diagnostics , abs sensor front u/s . changed that , all back to normal !
no way can i see that that sensor failing should bring her to a total halt , but it did.
it should have flashed up the light and carried on , with abs disabled and maybe the speedo not working.

I rebuild cnc machine tools , some are huge arrays.
One thing I’ve learned is not to ignore something as it just can’t be that.
If a processor is expecting or not expecting a certain input even if unrelated to the action in process it can go lulu!

Sorry to hear about all your problems , that’s the trouble with modern vehicles cars bikes etc , fantastic when everything working but when problems pop up it can and is a nightmare especially when it’s a intermittent fault.
I loved my 2018 gs and would go as far as to say the best bike I’ve ever owned , but saying that if I’d experienced problems like you I would probably be calling it a German shitebox as well.
