in reading the fuel pump controller failure - this could be the issue - although my bike is a 2010 GSA. In summary, lane 3 M20 going home tonight at a "brisk" pace and bang. total loss of engine. scary to say the least. Luckily i could put my hazards on and coast to the hard sholder - thanks largely to another biker on a gixer who saw what happened and shepherded me over. electrics are all fine but nothing from the starter button at all. It's going to the dealers tomorrow to fix and hopefuly something simple and i'll post the resolution. Thanks also to the two other bikers who stopped to see if i was ok.

Had similar issue on my '08 GSA although I was not riding at the time.

Electrics all good, bike would turn over, but just not start. Spark okay, no critters in the airbox...

Turned out to be a seized fuel pump.

Good to hear that you made it to the side without much drama.

If it went off with a bang and now won't even turn over, it's something more serious than a fuel pump or controller.

FPC failure would still let the engine be turned over by the starter.

bang

Dropped a valve? not unheard of.

strangely enough it started up this morning prior when the van arived to take it to the dealers. I am hoping now that they actualy find something rather than computer says fine....

:nenauapparently now fixed. Just spoke to teh dealer - 2 faults caused by a s/w glitch - 1 caused the exhaust valve to shut and the other to stop the injector working which caused the DME to shut down the bike. Hopefully that means something to someone. Somehow it just seems strange, I'm convinced something else has happened or maybe I am being paranoid. :nenau

Stoppies

How could the exhaust valve close? sounds a bit odd to me.

Glitch, eeek!

In my experience, there is no such thing as a software gltich. There are bugs. Bugs can only be fixed by new software or hardware. I presume they applied a new version of the software. If anyone else has this model it might be wise to see if there is a new version available.

how right you are

07:15 heading into London this am on the M20. Same thing. Luckily I was just pulling back into L1 after an overtake. Not happy  will be interesting to see what they find this time..

This is a potential lethal fault on a bike still in warranty, I'd be logging this with BMW yourself as well as the dealer who's 'repairing' it

Had a similar fault myself on a new sports bike which turned out to be the dealer fitted aftermarket alarm/immobiliser cutting in and killing the power

Unless the faulty part is identified and totally replaced I would have no confidence in riding a bike like yours at speed
