riding home with my wife this evening thought on a dual carriageway I missed a gear with my big boots on, when I missed another I looked down to see the final part missing! Not sheared, just fallen off??Popped into Bahnstormer Alton my local dealer who said not see that happen before? Then to my surprise A: you can't get the part as a separate part? B: it's not covered by extended warranty (which I just purchased a couple of weeks ago) C: £80!! The bike is 2.5 years old with 16300 miles and I would expect a gear lever to last years and years and years. Never been off road and never been dropped it. - A rant at BMW and I get this;
Thanks for your message about the gear lever on your BMW GSA. I'm sorry to hear this - I can understand your disappointment. Although the gear lever issue is unusual, the investigation has found no evidence of a manufacturing defect. this particular part isn't a warrantable item, and that the issue is a result of wear and tear

WTF!! Anyone else had this???

So............if I understand correctly................the pinch bolt wasn't tight enough and/or came loose and the end of the lever fell out?

The bike has done over 16,000 miles?

You want the (extended) warranty to cover a new gear lever (or part if it were available)?

Really? :blast

Bung an appropriately sized bolt in your hole and make sure the pinch bolt holds it nice and tight. Job's a carrot :)

Beaten too it!! Yeah, that one is cheap! although not adjustable like the one you have will fit fine.

Suck it up

It's probably worked loose and fallen off

EDIT - Andres is correct

Shit happens, don't forget to wipe your bottom too:blast

Hear you, but I dont want the whole lever just the the one bit...

I'm afraid you may get the full force of UKGSer's sympathy here. On the upside, at least it's not scratched.

my grumble is why cant you buy the end bit!

My missus does that; realises that what she's just ranted on at me about was a load of bollox then back tracks saying that's not what she really meant and was only joking/teasing/being ironic...............

One day she'll hold her hands up and just say, "sorry, I was being a bit of a twat wasn't I" and I'll smile and say, "not to worry my little honey bear, we all act the twat at times" and give her a big sloppy kiss....................It's not happened yet but I can live in hope :)

Andres

PS I'm NOT offering to give you a big sloppy kiss, just want to make that clear.

Does anyone bother to look at the "Last Ride Analyser" on their GPS V?

On my last journey of just 68 miles it indicates I changed gear ten thousand five hundred and seventy eight times. :nenau

Yes thank you again hear what your saying, but having to buy a whole f*cking lever for the end bit as not available as a separate part even the it is a separate part is just a rip off!!

Temporary measue ,find a bit of steel the correct diameter and length stick it in the hole and retighhten the allen bolt then wrap it in tape or put a bit of rubber tube over it to stop it damaging your boot .

Ridiculous that a removable paer of the gear lever is not available as a separate spare

Theres a link above to a new lever for £15 !!!!

And thread lock it. You'll probably end up with a better part than the original.
