I'm having difficulty (obviously) getting my moto x boots under the gear lever on my 1150 ADV.

Am I right in thinking that the adjusting nut above the lever is used to bring it up or down? Surely this will make it alot closer to the higher gears, but alot farther away from first?? Will I encouter problems finding first?

In the old days on my enduro bikes, one just undid the nut and removed the lever off the spline and moved it up a bit, it seems the BMW has a rather more advanced linkage system, due to the position of the gearbox (?)

I've asked a few things on this site now, but haven't managed to help anyone else yet.... Someone please ask ME something I know about :D !!!!

I don't know the answer to this but if McGregor and Boorman managed to go round the world on 1150 Advs wearing Sidi Flexforce SRS boots.....

I have the same boots, but so far, I haven't been able to get enough ankle articulation when wearing them to even think about riding the 1200 wearing them....:(

Possible answer???

I may have the answer!!

I searched on 'Gear lever' and came up with an answer from Mike O dated 31/5/04... It even has a diagram!

:D

brianski.... Did it work???? :D

You're worrying about nothing.

Adjust it up, it will make no difference to the way it shiftts at all.

I move mine regularly for mx boot or normal road boots.

Have fun.

Nippy's do an extender for MX boots, but I find I just use the edge of my boot rather than ever try and get my toe under. I tried a Capo once and could not change gear hardly at all in MX boots, but the edge method works well on te GS.

I've got a Touratech adjustable lever. It works a treat and is even ok when I'm not wearing my Moto x boots. I tried adjusting the original before buying the touratech job but couldn't get any position to work and my feet are only size 8's. I've no idea how folks with bigger feet can change gear comfortably even with normal boots using the original shifter.

Thanks, I've looked on their site (about £35) does it adjust up and down then?? Their picture appears to show it adjusting fwd/Bkwd?

Thanks for ALL the replies, and so fast :D

Fit some Fastway footpegs - great support for your MX boots and a bit lower than the original ones so will give you a bit more clearance for your boots. That and have a go at adjusting the lever up should help.

I agree with Dr Rich in that I just use the edge of my Alpine Stars and have never had any problems and it also means I don't have to mess around with anything (which is always a bonus in my book).

Height is adjustable using the existing linkage but you can adjust where this linkage connects to the touratech lever, so the height is a little more adjustable if the linkage were to be positioned at an angle. Distance the lever is from the foot peg is the main adjustment and I have found that a little goes a long way. For £30 odds it is a good buy. Using the side of your boot is far fom convincing and even less so in mud and rain (might be alright in London!), motocross boots are hardly the most sensitive things with which to feel a lever with. I'd rather not have to think about my foot too much when changing gear and just be able to do it when I need to! When trecking on a bit my bike needs a very positive change from 5th to 6th, something that I wouldn't feel confident doing with the side of my boot.
