After 8 months ownership, it has become apparent that the XChallenge has a problem. The gear lever sticks out, and doesn't have much in the way of protection.
On nearly all other off road bikes the gear lever is protected tucking it in behind the clutch casing/ engine case.
I've fitted the old F650 gear lever to prevent the selector shaft getting ripped off if the lever catches on anything, but i still haven't found anything that will give the lever some protection, so that in deep ruts it doesn't end up wrapped back under the foot peg, like mine has done twice
So whats the answer? Does the TT large bash plate offer more protection or is this just marginal??
