Has anyone got a picture of or a link to a picture of the gear lever on an 1100 GS ? Mine is a bit long I think, I have to put the heel of my boot on the footpeg to get my toes under the lever. Anyway was wondering if my least favorite BMW specialist had put the wrong one on. If you dont have a picture perhaps you could measure the distance from footpeg centre to rubber on the gear lever. Oh and how close does the linkage come to the starter motor cover ? mine is almost touching.

IMHO, and possibly others, the length and position of the gear lever is all wrong for 'normal' sized feet and this leads to the tendancy for 'agricultural' gear changes if you are not careful.

However, in answer to your question, I could photo mine tonight and post it for you.

1150 also

Funny I was discussing this at Pidcocks this week. I was making the same point, ie the gear stick is to far forward. Guess what everybody agreed, anyway someone seems to think that the new 2003 model comes with adjustable gearchange. Anyone else heard about this.

It might seem too long or far away because it's too low relative to the footrest. Adjust the length of connector to raise the height of the lever end. That might help.

Hmmm

Thanks for the photo's Boxer.

Mine looks like that also :( I thought I had the wrong part or something. It is a bloomin long way to the level and I have got it adjusted up, might see about getting it shortened some.. Anyone fancy a bit of cutting and welding :P. The new adjustable sounds the business..

Iain.

P.S anyone know of any aftermarket replacement ?

Soap your lever

Take it off.

Heat it up.

Bend it back to suitable position.

Sorted.

Thanks.

For those that don't know:
Rub soap on alloy parts to be bent before heating.
Heat untill the soap goes brown and bend.
It won't snap, it won't melt. Simple ay?
Good for bent brake or clutch levers.

It in't bent though

It's not bent or broke or anything its just to goddam long... Gonna have it cut down a little, will post a piccy once its done. While were on about levers does find the reach to the clutch is a bit long ? Maybe I should just grow a bit :D

Probably stating the obvious, but I presume you know the span is adjustable? I've got fairly small hands and I find it OK on the smallest cam.

Is it ?

I got an 1100 not an 1150.. Dont think mine has adjustable span! has it ooo quick gonna have a look.. Surely not that stupid.

Fixed it!

Just had another look at the pictures the Boxer posted, mine looked different so I had a closer look and discovered that the mounting bolt on mine was right behind the footrest!! ahhhh so I've moved it to the proper place and now its much shorter than before

Right now I have to make another call to the bloke who repaired it for me :shoot:

MMM sunshine cya laters..
