hope this is helpful.
FWIW
my experience with older, more basic machines - Airheads and Guzzi's would say check universal joint(s)in drivetrain.
sounds like it's breaking up.
Sorry if i'm right.
Thought it might be having had jeeps used to doing uj's
bikes still in France though (long story)
did paraever bearings at 23k they were ok just coming up 29 know 5k could have knocked them out
where's the gear oil likely to be coming from ? Dripping on left side of the y piece and side stand ?
sounds more feasable as shaft was ok last time i looked, will have to drop it in to steptoes when I get it back,
Steptoe, I presume its best not to ride it far ?
going to trailer it back from france better safe than sorry
If it is the gearbox input shaft bearings i wouldn't if you don't have to.
There's the chance of the seal letting all the gearbox oil over the clutch, plus if the bearings collapse completely other damage to the cluster shafts and /or the gearbox case. And gearbox parts are not cheap.
Bike is now back home, took panniers off went for test ride, strange no rubbling, may have been my abus chain in the bottom of the panniers vibrating and coming through the bike
Also no sign of gear oil leaking now, might have run under the bike when I checked the levels before we left, again a mystery as oil level seems fine ?
I think I will swing by steptoes to get it checked out anyway, as I can't find anything wrong with it now
