Interesting, artical i would like to see the difference with standard gear ratio to the modification ,to evaluate if the cost of the mod is proven to give an improved ride, to that of standard ratio on the box.
"this is nothing to do with the article but ,i have a m99 gearbox , in conjunction with the original 95 final drive rear end."
i haven't noticed much difference with the gearing.
this combination , i was told will make the engine rev slightly higher to reach the same speed as the old m95 final drive standard set up.
it pulls from 2 tho at 30mph (ie 25mph) in 5th....
also it has the torque to go right up to the higher rev end without dropping a gear under steady acceleration up to 100mph ish.
am not sure that the slight higher revs keeps the engine torque pulling to the top end without dropping the power, over the maximum power/ torque peek (ie having to drop a gear to bring the engine back up to the required revs to maintain the same speed on a smooth road with no incline)
this said, the old box had a habit of jumping out of gear in third .
so a fully functioning gearbox will be a considerable improvement , making my judgment biest anyway
like i sad nothing to do with the original article , just a little report on my box final drive set up
