Gear Shift Assist

They aren't the only ones! Why you'd fit a quickshift to a GS let alone a GSA beats me. But then, I guess very few GS's these days do what they were designed to do. The fact that a previous youtube video demos the gear assist around London manifestly demonstrates what kind of bike they have become and the kind of customer buying them. A similar proposition would be to add tiptronic paddle gear shifts to a Landrover Defender. Not for me thanks. :nenau

:comfort:D

I agree that a lot of it, we could do without, but yesterday the tyre pressure monitor paid for itself.

I left home, tyres were fine, then I checked the pressure after about 10 minutes (while riding), and the rear had dropped 0.5 bar. When I stopped at a petrol station, there was a nail in the tyre. I was able to pump it up, and limp on, keeping an eye on the pressure. We then plugged the tyre, and I was able to keep an eye on the pressure afterwards, without stopping every 5 minutes to make sure it hadn't gone down.

Now, I'm sure that bods have, and will cope without this witchcraft, but yesterday, it was a godsend.

There is obviously something wrong with your tyre pressure monitoring system. It should have alerted you earlier that you had a problem by showing the red triangle of death on the dash. When I picked up a drill bit through the rear tyre on my RT, it alerted me by the time the pressure had dropped to 1.8bar. Mind you Nutty, obviously that's on a better bike - an RT, not a toilet :D

After reading this thread, and giving it much deep consideration I can draw only 1 conclusion.

MOST OF YOU SHOULD BE RIDING SCOOTERS OR HONDA NC750 DCT'S. LOST THE USE OF YOUR LEGS HAVE YOU ?

:hide

Oh I understand, little benefit for a fraction of 1 percent of your riding time for extra cost and potential for increased cost of maintenance if it goes wrong as it ages.

Now when I were a lad, long ago, :rob they used to fit gearboxes called twin splitters to certain trucks. Finest thing ever fitted to trucks, no need for clutch once moving or stopping. BUT, if misused they used to give problems and I can see that this MAY follow the same path.

Ah, them were the days, cummins, road ranger, ERF trucks, what luxury - NOT :barf

oh come on guys. People's bikes. They can fit whatever the heck they like.

No it wouldn't. A new GS isn't analogous to a Defender in any way shape or form. A new Supercharged Range Rover Sport perhaps but definitely not a Defender......

THANX!

Thats Your "problem". I do it because I "can do it".

I'm not sure it constitutes a "problem" as such. Feasibility does not necessarily equate to adding benefit. I can paint my GS pink; I can turn my GS upside down and put it in my hallway and call it an art installation; I can use my GS as a clothes drying apparatus, but none of these things make the bike better for the purpose for which it was bought. Of course, as those fitting gear assist indicate - each to their own - and I'm more than happy for you to do whatever you like to your bike, just keep us amused with photos please.

May all your shifting be smooth and may your freewill continue to be exercised on each and all of your whims.

Perhaps the nay sayers could tell us all which bike will suit each of us and what we should have for tea....clearly they know best.

There's the failure of your argument, right there. It completely depends on what purpose the bike was bought for. Just because you bought yours to ride to Afghanistan or whatever, doesn't invalidate my desire to change gear using the quickshifter while on my way to waitrose because I've run out of almond croissants.

bloody still waiting for the codes so my dealer tells me

They had my GSA all day today and had repeated issues applying the software update. Eventually, with the help of BMW Technical at Bracknell, they've established that the sequence with which the software updates are applied is significant. Apparently all is now done, although I won't get the bike back until tomorrow morning.

So still 2014 bikes only at the moment, is that correct .... ??

That's certainly my understanding from the dealer, yes. And apparently not all 2014 model year bikes, there's a build week number after which the quickshifter can be fitted, although it was quite early only in the build year that they made it compatible.

That's interesting. I was under the impression that it was Sept 2013 onwards. How do you identify QS compatible bikes?
