Gear Shift Assist

Nope. Not explained in this thread. If you can't sum up why it is good in a few words then clearly it's not needed..... :-)

Fucin ace , two words I know , but so is quick shifter ......... This was sent from a device that once was deemed strange and not needed ....lol

Just had mine fitted today.:JB

It's really rather good.:beerjug: Lightning quick upshifts, and downshifts. You have to be quite firm with the gear lever, and only use it when accelerating properly, and not dilly dallying. I reckon it'll take most people an hour or two to perfect the gear changes as it's a bit alien at first. On the downshifts, it's good from 6th through to 2nd, but I wouldn't advise using it to go into first. Coupled with the full Akra system, the noise is fantastic, popping and burbling on every shift. You can also use the clutch for regular gear shifts at lower speeds, and these changes aren't affected by the presence of the shifter at all.

If you're thinking of getting one, you won't be disappointed.:thumb

Glad it's good as waiting to see if the parts can be retro fitted to my 2013 , with the new 2014 engine , may be able to add an addition to the existing loom , not sure yet as waiting for the factory to get back to my dealer ...

Giles should get one of these.:thumb:D

:beerjug:

God, I haven't been on here for over a week I think :D

Sounds good. I still cant make my mind up whether I'll pay off the balloon or get a 'new' GS this time next year :nenau I think I'm right in saying the quick shifter is only available on the 2014> bikes ??

I have the S1000RR, and during a recent test ride of a GSA I actually remember thinking... 'this bike would be good with a quick-shifter'! As some have already said (and I agree) you don't need one, but it is quite nice to snick up through the gears sometimes. I use the quick-shifter on the S thou every time I ride, and I also use the clutch for up-changes every time I ride - it all depends on the scenario at the time! I'm swapping the S thou for a new GSA (next couple of weeks) and I know I'm going to miss the quick-shifter, so will no doubt have one fitted. I won't need it, but I want the option - probably because I've got used to having one! :nod

You'll love it.:thumb It's only available on 2014 models onwards; check your vin with BMW and they'll confirm if it can accept the shifter.

I'm looking forward to playing with it at the weekend.:JB

You all seem to be getting them fitted OK, but when I ordered one yesterday for my GSA due 1st week of May, was told by Southport that they still can't get the software codes.
Anyone else waiting or has the problem actually been sorted?

Mine gets fitted by Cannon BMW on 1st May, looking forward to it (from a S1000RR background, I love 'em).

I've had the hardware fitted, but there was still an issue with the software when I was last at the dealer (end of last week); it's going back in a weeks time by which time they expect to have the software issue resolved.
