Gear Shift Assist

I got answer from SBW Motorrad that my bike is compatible for quickshifter, but given the research I made they are talking porkies. I've asked them if they checked my VIN number as according to VIN checker my bike was made on 12.03.2013 and the earliest compatible bikes were made from 20.03.2013 if you believe tech notes I found on Adv forum laat night!

Ummmmmm ..... interesting ... ! I might be in luck, I bought in late June and made around early April I think ....

I got price quoted for 359£ but they didn't say if it is with activation software and inc VAT. Waiting for fitting price and confirmation on compatibility...

Is this price ok or rip off if it has all required parts but no labour?

Charming!:D I'm sure it's for 2014 bikes onwards, but give your dealer a call, and they can double check.

Oi, I resemble that remark :D

GSAP compatible with bikes built after August 2013 with the last 7 digits of the VIN greater than Z184816 :thumb

got response from SBW Motorrad parts....
" your chassis is Z127866 build date July 2013 I used your chassis number on the parts index catalogue as it will only list parts relevant to your bike, the QS is available and suitable for your bike.
the prices I quoted are inclusive of VAT."

and got shortly after response from service at SBW Motorrad, that my bike is "too early" to get QS fitted :-(

I thought mine was a July build but my number is Z124801??

How can I find out if mines ok?

check with your Motorrad dealer, but given that my VIN is below this eligibility criteria... your one is even lower than mine...

Give it 6 months, and BMW will start launching some special editions (triple black with any luck), then you'll have a couple of good excuses to change the bike!

I feel quite disappointed that buying new bike which isn't even one year old is now kind of obsoleted! If the problem iscwith wiring loom I'm sure someone will figure it out and do loom retrofit kit. I did such thing to my Audi A6 which didn't have factory installed parking sensors but company in Germany created such loom and instructions for dyi fitting.

I would appreciate a picture of the said plug as mentioned by Ding Dong.

.

Ill post up a picture 2mo of the said plug on the back of the gearbox its clearly seen when you no what to look for and will confirm if your bike is suitable.

It's quite simple, if the last 7 digits of your VIN is below Z184816 then it isn't compatible for the GSAP.... simple as.

Its more than the loom, the ecu software is different by a huge amount, the code they install unlocks the part of the ecu that will enable killing of the fuel and ignition at the same time, note it kills both as normal shifters kill one or the other, the interrupt times and other QS settings are built into the software, I'm not sure if you would be able to install this in an early bike.

The canbus is very sophisticated on this bike even more so than the TC even dodgy fuel will send it into limp mode if the spark is interrupted, (i was the guinea pig for the translogic kit and established the wiring diagram that translogic use for this bike)

If bm retro fit, I'd recon new loom or part loom depending ! And new ecu but that ain't going to happen, its not cost effective plus the QS is a marketing tool for the nxt generation.

these days ecu are fully flashable so putting new software is peanuts. This technology was on other bmers so I'd be surprised that ecu hardware is not capable of handling QS.
