I had a look at this and all I could find was GL4, not the GL5 that we need. I could be wrong...
Your dry clutch BMW FD and transmission NEED GL5 spec oil
teeth will chip as GL4 is not up to spec and it will fail

Opie Oils sell Transmax; Enought to do the gear box and the final drive.
Transmax that I mentioned and posted a picture of is GL5
That Transmax is GL4
BMW Specify GL5* ! (*Well Dry plate transmissions for sure )
I can why Oil threads are so tedious now!!
Just put something Thick and Gloopy with a GL5 spec in there and have done with !!
You are not racing it with high torque lash and harsh changes every time
So anyone wanting to buy Transmax should double-triple check they are getting GL-5.
For DrFarkoff's benefit (to liven up the discussion) I thought Transmax was a a word used in the LGBGTQ+ community for a person who had 'gone the whole hog'.
Yup That will work quite well in the Final DriveI realise this is now an old thread but was just wondering.... everyone seems to be using the Castrol Transmax in either 75-90 or 75-140 but I’m seeing another product: Castrol MTX 75-140 which is specifically for motorbikes, just wondering what the differences are and is one better than the other, anyone using the MTX stuff?
ifferential GearYes but seems to be unavailable here in the UK or am I missing something? Also how does it differ from the Transmax I wonder as the available Castrol spec sheets are shite and don’t tell me anything.Yup That will work quite well in the Final Drive

Yes I understand the spec and find it quite funny how you have to impress on people the importance of that spec, particularly that guy that for one reason or another just didn’t get itOkay So I have to be BLUNT right here !! You do NOT need a specific Oil!!! End OF Story!!
You need a quantity of a grade and the required specification !! That is it !
So anywhere in the range of 75 to 140 for the figures ! 75W - 90 for example! If it is a Final Drive I Prefer to use 75W-140 or something similar 85W140
The ONLY other Thing that matters is the specification! It Must be GL5!
Not GL4 ..... not GL4 / GL5 Hybrid
For 200 + or - X ccs you can buy a bottle and change every 6000 miles for a few pennies more and that is how I do it with my personal bikes
I just say my bit and move on I find it sooooooooooooo funny that people can be so "Anal" about OilYes I understand the spec and find it quite funny how you have to impress on people the importance of that spec, particularly that guy that for one reason or another just didn’t get itbet you were close to pulling your hair out
.
I’ve been using the Lucas stuff at about half the cost of the Castrol and can’t fault it, was just interested in the difference between the two Castrol oils.
