HI ,had my 2014 gs now for three weeks ,was a replacement for my 2013 gs ,hoping that the new bike would have a great gear change ,and with
800 miles on and first service just done and guess what is exactly the same as the previous model!!!!!!
I am at a loss were go now ,will give it up to 1000miles and then report back to dealer,
selecting neutral no problem, clunks into first gear will have to live with a multi plate clutch trait , but changing gear up from 1st to second and then 2nd to 3rd clunk .. tried all sorts of methods but to no avail .
Has any one else got the same problem with a 2014 model .

My 2014 ADV is smooth as silk. yes it clunks into 1st but I don't see that as a problem. I have only done 400 miles so not yet had the first service.

I did 2,500 miles on a 2013 bike and that too had a silky smooth gearbox with the characteristic 1st gear clunk.

One person's smooth is another person's crunch?
My 2013 bike clunks into first but otherwise ok, I can 'feel' it change into 2,3,4,5,6 but nothing horrid happens - blip on down changes and all is good.

My guess is that a lot of the 'problems' are down to expectations - I will get told off for saying this though! :D

I changed my 2013 bike for a 2014. The gearbox was only one of the issues

Initially for the first 100 miles the bike gear change was less smooth but never missed a gear. Now the bike is much smoother and still never misses a gear (I'm only on about 500 miles). My 13 wouldn't change gears sometimes and would make a horrible crunching/grinding noise inbetween changes and then fail to change gear. All the other issues with my 13 bike have also been resolved too

Much happier with this bike :)

not too sure about that JB.

.

Eh?

His profile says he's a keen motorcyclist, retired - which would maybe suggest he's been riding for a few years. He also rides a Honda Pan 1300 with a wet multiplate clutch set-up............ as well as a WC GS

So it would suggest he has some experience of gear changing with a wet clutch and the experience between the Pan and the GS WC is vastly different

Give the man some credit

With due respect I am not surprised that yours is good !
Giving you a duffer would be the equivalent of Charlie and Ewan breaking down at the ferry terminal in terms of marketing !

I want one as I think they are bloody great but I can't afford to risk all that cash for something that isn't quite perfected yet.
Or to be more precise I wouldn't want to feel so let down if I got a bad one !

a gopro mounted backwards on the lower left crashbar with the skeleton camera casing. That will show clearly what the issues are. If its the bike , sharing the video with the owner's dealer will be pretty much conclusive.

just to be clear (and to share) on my 2014 water GS , I can deliberately choose to shift well or shift poorly. On my bike , its up to the rider (ie , me) to work with the bike.

Have you ridden a GS that doesn't have this problem i.e. one that is fine for other riders? And if so, do you find there is a problem? Just a thought.

PS - my 2014 GSA gear change is silky smooth.

All the above, with expert comments on how to change gear etc are already in the horrendous, world famous clanks, crunches thread!....

On my 2014 GSW, finding N is difficult. N to 1st is clunky. 1st to 2nd can be smooth, but the revs have to be down... If I shift from 1st to 2nd before the revs como down (clutch lever pressed) it is clunky. All other gears are smooth.

Dito , apart from N is easy to find. Notice the oil level cold/hot ?

One observation - I think that the oil level on the LC is critical. Mine was set to this level at the 12,000 mile service - last weekend stuck in hot traffic on a steep downhill road my 'check oil level' indicator came on, so I stopped and checked the level, it is was as shown in the pic when on flat ground. I guess that the oil-level sensor is perhaps a bit too cautious.

my oil level is as at top of red circle. As per manual.

she does not consume any oil between changes.

Hello my friend , mine was replaced because of gear change issues , never problem with neutral ,had clutch , pushrod ,slave cyl. master cyl ,software update , and still no cure found , what is your outcome at moment maybe we could pool our problems and thoughts to see if we can get this problem resolved that spoils a fantastic bike ,
maybe private message or e mail ,phone , THE FORUM HAS SOME NEGATIVE COMMENTS FROM USERS THAT HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEMS. but riding over 50 years and 30 plus bikes is the worst yet .
