Gearbox/clutch

My 12GSA has recently started making an aweful grinding sound coming from the gearbox.
It sounds like worn down brake pads rubbing metal to metal on a disk.
Sound disapears when I engage the clutch.
Any idea what the problem may be.

Answers other than it's proper fecked please!
