Bought mint 05 GS1200 in April with meticulous FBMSH with just over 13k miles.
10th July 09 returning from spin mileage now 14700, gearbox went into couple of false neutrals going up through the box 4th to 5th first one felt like miss timed clutchless change. Stopped bike, started off from neutral seemed ok upto 3rd rough changing 4th and 5th but was ok in drive. Less than 1/2 mile later , big bang, revs through the roof, no drive, oil dumped onto road and back tyre.
Managed to stop safely to find big hole in gearbox.
Bike recovered and eventually sent to Roy Pidcocks BMW at Long Eaton who was the supplying dealer and had carried out all the servicing. Had spoken with service dept who were pretty sympathetic said they had something similar with an 04 bike but nothing since.
Emailed BMW UK got standard auto reply. Pidcocks said £1600 for new box plus fitting £2k but unable to do for a month due to workload.
Pidcocks contacted BMW who agreed to pay for the lot. Got bike back Aug 11th. Flying visit to Ireland 1k miles no probs.Yahoo!

OK, so the gearbox should not fail after 4 years and 13k on the clock, however does anyone think that Yamahonduktm HQ would take the same view as BuMW and pay up in total? Let me think...Mmmm.:(

Lucky Man!
Bet everyone with an 05 is looking over their shoulder now.
Err, when did I buy mine??

AND why not be a subscriber for the Full Experience?

Nope. But then it would cost a LOT MORE than £400 quid to replace a Yamahonduktm gearbox, as they are part of the engine.

BMW's (being tractor like) have the gearbox seperate.....
