Can anyone advise I am new to 1200 GS, usually I ride off road bikes, taking my wife to France so bought a 1200 GS. The gearbox sounds like a bearing noise. Is this usual for the 1200s? people I have spoken to say that the 1200 arnt prone to gearbox faults and that they run a bit noisy.
Can anyone shed light on this for me.
thanks

Hi Paul
There shouldn't be any strange noises from the box, does it sound the same with clutch in \ out?
The gearboxes are sturdy (for a BM).
Drop it down to a BMW dealer and you could compare the noise to another bike.

hi thanks the bike back at the dealer I bought it from, they now saying nothing wrong with the gearbox, the only thing is that in the paperwork they gave me with the bike one receipt for a service recently says ... needs gearbox repair. Another says noisy bearing.. query....... they are ringing me tomorrow... I just feel I want a refund and start looking again........

I've noticed with me new 1200GSA, there is a clunk when letting the clutch out, and also a loud one when downshifting. Might ask the dealer about that one tomorrow on its first service...

Don't panic, my 2004 bike had a fair amount of transmission noise but it shifted cleanly through the ratios and never missed a beat. They feel a little agricultural compared to an inline-4 japanese bike with a stacked gearbox, but are generally robust.

I have seen a few 1200 gearboxes apart on the bench at my local motorrad dealer over the past few years but then again, they probably strip down all models. :nenau

The clunking you describe is fine and perfectly normal. They do sound very agricultural, don't panic. :)

Rawr super! Will still mention it in convo mind you :)
Just hope they have the kettle on when I get there in the morning!

hey are you physic, how did you know i bought it from a triumph dealer ?
going to try for a refund but dont really know if I have grounds.

Not fit for purpose- You've already got the paper work from it being in some where else for work and the gearbox fault mentioned at that visit.
Nothings been done about it and they've bought it in as a trade in presumeably. They've not addressed it & sold it you.
Distance selling regs spring to mind plus I think the minimum requesite for a dealer sale is 3 months warranty
