Hello all,
How much oil do I put in the gearbox of my 2011 TC Gsa ?
Some say fill until it reaches the filler hole and some say a certain quantity.
What's the definitive answer.
Thanks in advance.
Kev

I think about 700ml usually does mine.
I can definitely change the FD & gearbox oil using 1 litre of oil (though I put 180ml in the FD - controversial I know). :green gri

you are about a 100ml short ,i think it is supposed to be 800ml for a refill ,but i always found it to be 850ml till it started running out again.:thumb2

On reflection fizzer I'm sure you're correct. There's virtually nothing left from a 1 litre can after doing both, therefore 750ml will probably be just short unfortunately kwallace.

I did my FD first with 200ml and then did the gearbox. Oil was just appearing from the box filler/level so I'd say its 800ml less whatever is stuck inside the oil bottle walls.

I used the posh 75-140 full synth from Millers.

I'll grab another litre of the gearbox oil then just to be safe. I can use it for numerous FD oil changes later.
Thank you for the replies gentlemen.

Haynes manual for the TC bike says 700ml.

That's what I did last time and again this weekend.

But don't ask about my final drive...... :green gri

Haynes also says 180ml for the final drive but BMW began with 220. With the way FD bearings go titisup I prefer to use at least 200ml and will try 220 next time.

I fill to the bottom of the bolt thread - takes about 900ml.
200 ml more than the recommended amount?

is that wise right?

That's about 25% more oil than recommended.

I have an 1150gsa and loads on here's said fill it to the ottom of the thread it will be fine, which was almost a litre, it's recommended 800 ml. Or 1 lite after a rebuild.

Funnily enough my fkn outputs shaft seal went last year, needless to say I now stick to the correct text book levels and have had no issues thus far.

I'm not saying overfilling caused it but it couldn't of helped.

Not after a forum scrap just wondering why people are filling past recommended capacities 👍

They all have g box oil level plugs ? how can you get the wrong amount?? You pour oil in untill its up to the fill hole.
If I remember correctly my 1150 was 1 litre for the gearbox cos I had to buy two bottles to do a final drive oil change as well.
Why would put in less than up to the correct level?:nenau

Exactly, you could only overfill if you laid the bike on its left side ( gs1150 ) and topped the box up.

If I remember correctly, the OEM tech manual says fill it to the bottom of the filler thread so that's what I do. Been doing the same on my K1100RS for the last 20 years and no issues.
