so i will order a new clutch with longer splines from motorworks ,now my question is i see a few gearboxs for sale on ebay and they look the same as mine {6 speed and a black gearbox}
but some say RS,RT, ETC are they the same as my GS are the ratios the same .
many thanks

That Anton link gives you loads of info on the gearbox codes and what each one means in respect of the ratios inside. Well worth checking out IMO.

My R80GS used to go though a gearbox bearing every 25-30k miles - output shaft, input end, it was lubricated by a drip plate that didn’t work as well as the rest of the lubrication system. I used to swap a spare gearbox over after tea so I could get to work the next day, then stripped and rebuilt the one I’d removed. Lancs Police VMU were always helpful in lending me the output flange tool for the weekend.

Once I bought the 1150, I used that experience and got hold of a spare gearbox from a breaker. 25yrs ago, nobody was buying secondhand parts and few bikes were written off as they were still quite new. It mean that the gearbox cost me
£52 delivered and it’s been filled with oil and checked every now and again, but still sits in a box on a shelf in my garage. Ready for the day I may need to swap it out, exactly like this situation.

I’ve just been given an immaculate rear subframe and I really do expect my GS/A, like Triggers Broom, to outlive me at this rate.
