gearbox

Helllo

I’ve just take one hour and fifteen minutes to remove the gearbox…

Not bad (that time in the land rover should only be enough to remove the covers) :)

I also receive today the gearbox from motorworks. It take 5 working days to arrive.

I will assemble the recondition box today. I will give some feedback tomorrow.

After I will send the old gearbox to motorwoks to receive the refund. Is any one interested in the old gearbox to rebuilt? I will let it go for the same price that Motorworks pays for it. (90 pounds)

Since new bearings cost around 65 euros the most reasonable thing to do it keep the old one and rebuilt it myself when I’ll find the time…

That's what I'd do.
But as you say, work + family = no time. :(
I've had a spare gearbox in my shed for a month or two awaiting an overhaul and I suspect it'll be waiting there awhile yet.

Hello

One and a half hour to remove the gearbox and almost 5 hours to put every thing back!

The worst part was the rubber gaiter that goes to the gearbox. Probably one and an half hour just for that fuc&%#!!:mad:

BTW: Is there any easy way to put it in?

Now every thing is in its place and the bike is running much quieter and smoother

Hello

Now that I have the “new” gearbox in place I’m noticing that the fist gear seems longer then it was in the old gearbox. (I will try to verify that)

I’m almost sure that the old gearbox was not opened since it left the factory.

Question: all the R100 gearboxes (OE) have the same ratios?

I used bits of welding rod about 1.5mm diameter with the ends bent at 90 degrees. I made three of them. While they didn't make the job easy they did make it possible (eventually :D)

Oh, and be careful not to make a hole in the rubber with the ends of the rods- I rounded the ends with a file first. The new one seemed to be made of a lot stiffer rubber and I was tempted to reuse the original, but as that was nearly 30 years old it seemed silly. So I didn't.
