oh wait, they did. the early 1150s with the "E" box
never any any issue with first on either of them. can't see the point of the low first gear., but i admit i've never ridden a bike with that option.
I had the direct 6th on my 1150ADV (I think all 1150 ADVs came with this) and preferred it to the E geared bike I tried.
You'll have to take a spin on mine sometime to try the lower first on the 1200, there's not a huge difference and whilst I didn't have a problem with the regular 1st gear on previous 1200's I prefer the lower version.
Regarding 6th on the current 1200 twin cams, I think it's about right, it would easily pull a taller gear but its nice to not have to change down to get a wriggle on and to have useable acceleration a squirt of the throttle away.
Maybe it's because I ride 2 up a lot? I nearly always downshift from top for decent acceleration.
