General 1150 parts question

Afternoon chaps,
I have an 02 1150 GS which I really like. I've had it for just over a year and have done 30,000 miles on it. Odo reads 55k now.

I also have a Kawasaki Versys which is dying a death so it's getting traded in next week for something. The Kawasaki dealer which I'm using is going to have a Kawasaki GTR1400 (09 with 30k) and an R1150RT (02 with 30k).

I like my GS so much I think the RT will be a good companion in the garage. I've not seen it yet but apparently it's in great condition and I'll be test riding it next week sometime. I also don't know the price at the moment.

So, question time, for how many years am I going to be able to easily get my hands on 1150 spares, bits and bobs?

I'd like to have the RT because I can keep some spares in the garage that will fit both bikes.

I'd like to have the GTR because I like the contrast between it and the RT and because it still has warranty left.

A dilemma as you can see. It's going to come down to comfort and, to a lesser extent, price. If the RT is a steal I'll probably snap it up safe in the knowledge it has plenty of life left in it and I've got all the right 1150 sized hammers to do all the servicing.

But I really fancy the GTR........

Bother!

So back to the point of the post. Can I expect to easily get 1150 parts for the next 5 years?

Bear in mind ...

... that you can get most parts you need for a 1978 80/7 off the shelf at a number of UK outlets, then I'd say you stand a pretty good chance of getting parts for your 1150 in 20 years time

As to the RT, make sure you take the panels off for a look as according to a well known sarf Lundun guru, a large proportion of them are rot boxes beneath the paneling

That's the sort of answer I was hoping for/expecting.

I will definitely be removing all of the panels. The dealer says it's in good nick but he's not got it in stock yet so won't have had a really good look. It's due to come in part ex. for a GTR1400.

I still really fancy the GTR though.

but I really like my GS and I like the look of the RT.

Decisions, decisions......

Vicent motor cycles stopped producttion in 1955 but all spares are available so don't worry ditch the jap crap.

I don't suppose anyone is interested but I bought the RT in the end.

I test rode the GTR1400 for 200 miles and I was determined to like it and I almost did. It has an astonishing engine but the handle bars are a few inches too low for me.

I took the RT out for a test and I was comfy in 10 metres. It felt like the bike was built just for me.

It's an 02 1150 just like my GS. It's done 37,000 miles and has a full service history and it is in great condition. Much better than the 09 GTR I had for the day. I've not taken the fairing off to see what it's like underneath but from what I can see through the gaps it's very clean. It looks like it's never been out in the rain.

It does feel odd that I traded in an 07 bike (Kawasaki Versys) and then paid extra to take the 02 bike home. Still never mind.

So, next weekend I will have a GS and an RT in my garage.

It looks like I'm stuck with you lot for quite a while now. Or should that be the other way round?

Great looking bikes those r1150's. Ho do you find it compared to the GS?

Hi Benjah,
I only rode it for about 15 miles. Half on the dual carriage way and half on some back roads. To be honest, it feels exactly like my GS which I was expecting.

I'll know more after I pick it up next week. It'll do 1,000 miles of commuting in that week.
