This was just posted on the GS owners forum on Facebook can anyone help?

If so I'll pass on details

*****Need HELP****
Two motorcycle travelers through Scotland need help - one BMW airhead (built before 1995, air-cooled) needs a generator rotor. My husband, Possi (www.possi.de) and his friend, Wolfgang, asked in Glasgow at the BMW dealer but they have spare parts nobly for modern motorcycle.
If somebody can help with this spare part in UK, or even better Scotland, please private message to me. Thanx a lot!

Just give them motor works number, they'll mail one out to where ever the same day if they have one.

Possibly..... I have a friend just outside Edinburgh who has quite a stock of airhead parts. He once supplied and fitted a new wiring loom to an R100RS belonging to a Belgian couple who I rescued when they were sittingly forlornly in a Motorrad dealership, contemplating a 6 week wait and a bill of c. £600. Where are these foks now and can someone work out exactly what it is that they need, i.e. a replacement alternator or....?

International McRescue wheezes into action! :scotsman

Well I'm guessing that it's a Bosch alternator rotor that they need but until that's established for a fact and the logistics of the operation, I'm not going to ask Uncle George in SQ if he's got one. :nenau

Got an email from the chap's mate. Seems he got the knock back at Park's and is in Lochboisdale at the moment. No immediate panic as they are managing to charge the battery pro tem. Will send you a pm Mike.

Uncle George just got back to me. He's just back from holiday and will have a look "in the morning" to see what he's got.

Situation resolved. The gents wife left a message of thanks to say someone in Edinburgh has been in touch. Nice one guys.

I suspect that may have been scotboxer as he's had some e-mail correspondence with the guys. If so, it's not entirely resolved as yet. As you can see above, he and I have both been attempting to source an alternator rotor.

No joy with Voyager and another airhead fan. Awaiting the SQ oracle! Failing that, it's a courier job from the usual retail sources down south.

Peter (Scotboxer) has been in touch with me as well. I don't have a spare rotor and my first thought was GG in SQ.

I do have an acquaintance in Edinburgh with an R65 and a K100, I'm getting a message to him but its a long shot.

Failing that, one of us can take the rotor from one of our bikes :augie.

Bob.

Yep. That's the last line of defence Bob! I think they should be able to source one from MW or the others though. They seem to be coping at the moment via charging the battery. Currently headed for Stornoway. At least it's a Monday!

Well, that's Claus and Wolfgang on their way to the TT via the Lakes. They ordered up a new non oem rotor from Motobins (£60:D) sent to Embra and Wolfgang fitted it last night. They even had a12v soldering iron and solder with them, Would have been a 20 minute job but then the ignition light would not illuminate! A wee bit of faffing about (techie term)'with my multimeter and the tank was lifted. One of the relays under the tank was not working. Cleaned up the contacts, swapped them over and Bingo! Two happy Bavarians! Just saw them off on the A7 headed for Hartside via the A7.

BTW, Wolfgang's battery was pretty flat so he started it via a power pack (see pic). Pretty impressive and it doubles as a defibrillator!:D
