I need a new rear disc for my 13 plate 1200 GSA. Would appreciate advice on whether to go for genuine BMW part or Brembo part from somewhere like Motorworks?

What mileage are you at? And what disc thickness have you got? I know the dealers will often tell you a disc is worn when there's still plenty of life left in it

They are obliged to advise when the item is outside of service limits, they have no discretion on this matter.

You, on the other hand, are under no obligation to heed their advice. :-)

I am Mr. OEM so I would (unsurprisingly) go for the BMW disc.

Phone 0208 546 2600 and ask the receptionist to speak to the garage.

Tell him he's a cnut, then ask him how much his discs are :beerjug:

PS that garage works until midnight most nights, so call him anytime :green gri :augie

Very true and as some people never check anything, ever, on their bikes I can understand why dealers will often advise a disc being changed or other work being done before it meets it's service limit as it won't be checked for another 6k miles..

I hardly ever use the brake pedal because the linked braking gives more than enough rear bias. Probably too much to my mind.
My old disc was well below the BMW wear limit but sailed through mot. The tester checked for cracks at the vent holds found none and told me to keep a watchful eye on it.
Sadly I can't give numbers because the disc was replaced last September.

on rails

I use it in corners to make the bike squat, try it, keep on the gas and drag the brake:thumby:

I have a mate who rear trail brakes into corners.............. we've pulled his bike out of a ditch twice in the last 8 weeks. He claims it's the quickest way around a corner, I reckon the quickest way is on it's wheels!!!
We agree to disagree.
